Did a little chronoing last night. A little dissapointed after shooting my 378. The two loads I was interested in were 78 grs. of 760 and 71 of Rel. 15 both with the 300 TSX. The 760 load is only going 2459 fps at 15 ft. and the Rel. 15 load is going 2535 fps. Actually worked out good as the Rel. 15 load is shooting at or under 1". These are from a 22" barrel. While at it my 338 load is the 250 Nosler over 74 grs. Rel 22. Its doing 2666 fps. at 15 ft. My mid size guns are now ready to go.

I beleive he was shooitng a 378 Weatherby, judging by what I made BOLD

Sorry guys I was at work. Yup H&H. Just not used to seeing such low speeds. Just thought it might point some other H&H users in thje right direction. Just out of curiosity what does THE KING do with 300s? Don't think you could use the 300 TSX in THE KING as it would probably touch the primer.

The "KING" (self proclaimed) hates this pic. :dancingbanana:

LOL!! I will not even mention the 378 velocity I was pushing last fall with 270s hum hum hum lol!

Some would say The King is still alive however and WILL SING ANOTHER DAY!

But yes those velocities seem low.

I have a 300 wby as i mentionsd in posts previous that has a slow barrel I can not get close to book or factory velocity but it shoots well enough to keep in my opinion.

So these are your mid sized guns 338s, 375s, and a 378 lol! What are the big ones:D

Those big Weatherbys scare me. 375H&H (or similar) is enough for me.

.

The .378 does come back pretty good, but does not scare me like a Ruger #3 in .45/70 loaded hot does
Just get a good grip on the forearm, and roll with it. I must admit, it has a very fast recoil compared to calibers like the .458 or .416 Rigby.

That speed deffinately seems a touch high. The same charge in my H&H gives 2680 fps. with 270 Hornadys. As far as my med. guns, I normally used my 338 for Deer for many of the last 10 years. Only recently went to the STW again. Its my smallest hunting gun. I just have no use for anything smaller. I try to make uses for my big guns. Last year I packed a Rigby for 2 Deer hunts.

What did your pressure testing equipment tell you the pressure was?

:D
My new fangled pressure meter was on the blink that day. ;) I had to resort to the old fashioned method.

Perhaps next time I could borrow yours, which would be the same pressure equipment you used to ascertain that my pressures were high. :)
