I've been thinking of doing a smaller bullet test similar to the .264 and .358 bullet test I did a few years ago. I'd like to compare the mid weight bullets (250 to 270 gr) that are more than suitable for hunting in North America. I have some 250 TTSX and 270gr Hornady but I'd like to compare them to the Nosler 260gr Accubond and Partition and especially the Matrix 270gr. If anybody has a few spare Noslers or Matrix to donate for the cause, please send me a pm.

Thanks

Why not touch bases with Marshal @ Matrix Ballistics, he might just donate some of his superb bullets.
As a matter of interest how many bullets of a given size / make are required to conduct a proper test ?
I'm going to watch the test with serious interest as I have at least four different rifles of .375 bore all in different chamberings and of course differing velocities..

I like to have 5 bullets of each kind. I shoot three in the stack of wet newspaper to have a somewhat representative sample. That leaves me two for a re-shoot in case one slips out of the stack and for photographs.

Can you pm your postal address ( unless you live in Abbotsford ) and I'll send some stuff your way..

I have the following available;
- Matrix 300gr FBRN bonded
- Sierra 250gr SBT
- Hornady 300gr RN Interlock
- Nosler 300gr partician

If any of those are of interest to you for your test, give me a shout as to which and your postal address and I'll send them along..

I have a few heavies left, (350 gr Woodleighs and 380 gr Rhinos) but which cartridge are you using? A .375 Ruger doesn't have enough length to kick the 380s out at much more than 2100, whereas a .375 H&H can break 2250, a .375 Ultra easily makes 2350, and the .378 Bee nips at 2500.

any theory why a H&H can give 150 fps more speed? since it has slightly less case capacity than the Ruger

Same reason that I told you 10 years ago, but you didn't believe me then so I doubt you'll believe me now. Anyway, the long bullet seats deeply into the body of the case, and displaces so much of the available powder capacity that the velocity potential of the case capacity can't be realized. Less powder capacity is displaced by a long bullet shank in a skinnier cartridge case, thus the H&H has the advantage, despite having slightly less capacity.

That said I didn't try ball powders or try slightly faster powders to try to make it work, because I didn't have the bullets to spare to work a load for a rifle I didn't own. I just wanted to see if I could make it work with 4350 or H100V which works well in the longer H&H and Ultra brass. H414/760 might allow the 380s work better in the .375 Ruger, but as I said, I didn't have the bullets to spare to work up the load, and my pal with the .375 Ruger now moved away, and wouldn't let me keep it. Some pal! My advice is if you want to shoot 400 gr bullets in a Ruger Alaskan, get one in .416.

I can help out I have a fair selection

Cutting Edge = 230gr Raptors

Hornady = 270gr Spitzer #3710 & SP-RP #3711

Claw = 270gr bonded semi-spitzer made in Africa

Sierra = 250gr & 300gr spitzer Gamekings

Swift = 300gr A-Frame

Nosler = 300gr Partition

North Fork = 350gr

Barnes = 350gr TSX

Thanks for all the offers guys. Due to my limited amount of newspaper, I'll concentrate on the 250-270gr range for now so don't be offended if I don't ask for your 300 grainers. I'm just waiting on some replies to see what I'm getting to ask for the ones I'll need so I don't double up for nothing. Thanks again.

Looks like I have some nice bullets to test coming. I'll be testing

- 230 gr CEB
- 250 gr TTSX
- 250 gr GMX
- 260 gr Accubond
- 260 gr Partition
- 260 gr A-Frame
- 270 gr IL
- 270 gr TSX
- 270 gr CEB

I'd really like to test Marshall's 270gr bounded Matrix if someone has some.

Any chance of getting some run of mill corelok or power shok in 270 or 300 for comparison as well!

I'll throw some Hornady 270gr Interlock and Speer 235gr Hotcor for a cup & core bench mark. I'll be shooting the test with my .375 Ruger so unless you have some Corelok, Power Point and Power Shok pulled bullets it's probably not going to happen.
