By the end of business today I will have my first 375 Wby to play with. I have an old L61R Sako 375 H&H in a beautiful tiger striped piece of dark walnut, actually more a fiddle back grain. I don't need 4 H&Hs so the Sako has agreed to become a Wby. I'll go down and knock the barrel off right after lunch and set 'er up and cut me a new hole in the back of that barrel. Polish 'er up and go fireform some brass this afternoon, actually the weather is crappy and raining so I think I'll spin it together and glass in the action first.

Here's some photos of the rifle, by the way it is finished now and the barrel is back on ready to bed. Going to be doing that this afternoon, seeing as how it's raining. Maybe tomorrow to the range for a wring out.............I need more scopes!!!

Photos taken before rechamber.......................Yes, it still looks the same no marks on the barrel or bluing all worked out 100%.......dicked around some showing the kid what I was doing and it still only took 45 mins.

Nice rifle and a great cartridge. I like mine, a real improvement over the 375 H&H. - dan

I spoke with Ted (Why Not?) at length one evening about it and he was saying what a big improvement over the H&H it is. He's had at least one and I think actually more than one, and he was quoting some pretty impressive ballistics. So I figured then that I needed to try one.......and voila, there it is. It is such an easy rechamber, very little cutting, nice thing about chambering or rechambering the bigger bores........way less cutting and way less chips and way less time. Like running the 9.3X57 out to X62.........15 min lathe time literally.

Mine was a rechambered BRNO controlled feed ZKK602 with its factory 26" barrel. The one Rembo built was a Rem 700 rebarreled with a 24" Winchester model 70 barrel. IIRC, the finished length was a tad over 23 inches after fitting it to the 700. They both feed without a hiccup, and get 300 gr Partitions to 2800 fps.

I never fired the 700 enough to determine case life, however the BRNO cases show no head expansion or loose primer pockets after ten reloads. Twenty cases is enough for a lot of 5000 ft lb muzzle energy shooting. :)

375 H&H is as good as it gets, plenty of case capacity for caliber.
Does 375 Whetherby "improves" on smooth cartridge feeding when chips are down?
I don't think so....

Gives you truly useful practical ballistics, and feeding is a function of the build of the rifle. It it doesn't feed properly, it isn't built properly. - dan

My lawrd Douglas, you raped that gal and didn't remove yer hat?..........yowzers........Laugh2
Pretty gal, hope she groups nicely.

Actually Looky, I started taking pics of the whole process and was going to post the progression through the rechamber process back to reassembly but after I got the barrel off, I forgot about the camera and just got into what I was doing...............next thing I knew, there it was, barrel back on and back in the stock.......what can I say.

x2

It seems that quite a few people don't realize that a very long time ago, gun makers figured out how to make cartridges with shoulders feed in bolt action rifles. ;)

Heading to the range to check some more rifles and loads out and make some brass for the 375 Wby. I've got 50 R-P H&H cases loaded up to be fireformed then I can start load testing next week. I ordered 5 new scopes from Bass Pro should be in Mon, so we'll get her scoped up and see what she does with 300 gnrs. I have some Nosler Parts and Swift A-frames in 300 gn so it should be enough for the first round of testing. Would like to get my hands on some 300 gn TSX, but alas the LGS has squat for loading supplies left these days, I'll have to cast about and see if I can find some somewhere...................I foresee more headaches in my future...375 Wby, 35 Whelen to sight in now I have a good 250 Part load, Marshal shipped my 340, 366 and 375 bullets Thur or Fri so they'll be here next week. Dave @ PT&G is building my 458 Imposter reamer..............many headaches in my future...

Doug, try "Rayn'er shine" gunworks out of Lancer, SK. I got a bunch of R-P .300 H&H cases from them a few months back. I guess they are some distributor.

Anybody out there have a couple hundred + W-W 375 H&H cases they may part with................if so PLEASE PM me !!!

It's not WW brass but I thought I'd let you know that Bud Haynes has listed in their last catalogue (auction Aug 17) lot # 236-D-54-A
(80) pcs .375 Weatherby reloaded ammo in A-Square brass. Included in the lot is a set of RCBS dies.
I don't know how the quality of A-Square brass comapres to the W-W but it may be worth a phone call to place a bid.
Whoever buys the .375 Wby, Bill Leaper custom BRNO in the lot before, that may have their eye on your ammo :)
