375h&h vs 375 h&h improved

I had a BRNO ZKK602 rechambered to 375 Wby by Bevan King, and used it for a few years. It easily got 3000 fps with 270s and over 2800 with 300 gr bullets out of the factory 26" barrel, and the brass lasted forever.

Using 300 gr partitions, the rifle bowled moose over like they were deer.

Rembo built one a few years ago, and I used it for a few weeks developing loads. IIRC, it had a 24" barrel and was about 50 fps slower. He may still have the data.

The 375 Wby definitely increased the velocity, and both bullets shot much flatter than a 30-06. In fact, the spitzers shot as flat as a buddy's 7mm Rem Mag.

Does one need that improvement? I sold mine to a guy who thought it was worth at least twice what I figured it was. Haven't really missed it, either. :)

Straight walls and sharp shoulders negate the real beauty of the H&H case...the slick feeding. Sure my 300 WM is a hair faster than my 300 H&H but nothing in the world feeds a smoothly as a nice 300 H&H. The 375 is a close second in slickness.

I can't imagine why a person would worry about squeezing 100 more FPS out of what is already essentially the most versatile medium bore cartridge on the planet.

Puzzactly!!!

If it ain't broken .... don't fix it!! :)

I dont disagree with the "if its not broke.." concept, but to add a good 100-150 fps tends to give it a little better performance if it is required. And besides, it still can use a standard 375 HH round without a hiccup.

The best of both worlds.

You know...I"d consider it if I weren't afraid that the awesomeness of the .375 H&H that I already enjoy would just be too "improved" and blow my mind for sure!!!

Puzzactly!!!

So true.... maybe I'm just afraid of change!!!

Ill just stick with the old school,if I want another 150 fps ill just buy hornady. But I am gonna switch from sleemans to spiced rum and probably hit the matress harder than my 375.

I like the 375's, pretty much all of them, even the little 375 winchester. I have to agree with Boomer that if you want to move up from the 375 H&H, you need to go to a RUM to really get a difference. And with all the factory 375's out there I would avoid the whole AI thing completely.

To get a real improvement, go to the 378 Weatherby!:D:eek:
