37mm Flare Launcher

I have a 37mm unit no issue as far as the law goes no lic required, but it is very had to get any 37mm halls. Not sure if you will have a hard time getting it cross boarder, as mine was already in Canada.

Up here as I understand it, they have an FRT and are listed as non-firearms.

Here's mine:

I've been wanting to get one of these but don't want the carbine version.

I also don't want to place an order for one; once bitten twice shy when it comes to ordering gun stuff.

Does anyone have a picture of it mounted to an M4? - I'd like to see it.

You can't get em from the states, you do need an export permit.. I lost $40 in exchange to Spikes Tactical and Visa trying to do it from the source. I got mine from Questar... I like it, but make sure you get the 12gauge adapter, I've never seen any other ammo (Not that I've really looked, you can get the 12gauge ones at Cdn Tire).

It's one of those things that you'll prolly barely ever use, if at all.. but is pretty cool and has a huge wtf effect on everyone at the range. :) Anyway, here she is:

Lol, I knew there was something funny about it.. when you look through it, it lines up with the front sight.. but the angle is kinda weird! :) I shoulda got a flattop one in the first place.

FYI - if you have not registered the launcher as a firearm with CFC, then the 12ga adaptor makes it a prohibted weapon...

It's 12ga flares. You do not need any license or registration for flares.

But on another note can civilians get chalk rounds or smoke rounds?

No worries, the 12ga adaptor does NOT fit 12gauge rounds.. only 12gauge flares... you'd really have to machine it to take the shells and even then it's just aluminum, I don't know if I'd trust blasting a slug out of it.

Kevin,

If the adapter is made out of steel, will the launcher take the pressures required? I mean, how tough is the lockup and the plate the back of the shell is resting against, for the recoil that's generated?

Either way, the carbine length launchers do look pretty mean. I think a 10" one would look best, but that's just me.

Pave -- I am not 100% sure for some of the Launchers out there.

I know its been done with some of the Spike's Launchers, but the idea behind the adaptors where more for 40mm stuff.

I'd be more worried about the issues with the mounting system of the launcher.

Hence the reason I went with the stand-alone mount for my system.

I sold the upper that I'd been using as a mount a while ago, and found that the launcher had sat on my bench/on top of my safe for over a year without being fired.

So, I decided to dig through the pile of steel beside my lathe and see what I might turn up.

I found a couple of chunks of steel appropriate for the task, total value on the steel was about $14 (in it's raw form) and then spent about 20 hours in front of the mill with it turning out the system you see below:

The first cut:

Return pass to finish the cut.

Clamped on a 45 to cut the angled side of the picatinny rail:

Cutting the picatinny slots:

A full length rail takes about 5 minutes per slot (2 passes) times 29 slots = a bit over 2.5 hours just to mill the slots.

I don't have a 1.125" drill bit, so I started small, and ended with working my way up in size on the lathe. This was a SLOW process due to the offset setup....going fast would probably have ended up tossing the piece out of the lathe.

Since I built the stand-alone system for it, I've used it a number of times, and it's much more versatile (I find). I no longer need the AR as a host rifle for it.
