37mm Flare Launcher

CHAO5,

My machining skills are slowly improving.

Bear in mind, I started my apprentice machinist course 17 years ago, but before I completed it, I joined the Navy.

I took a 14 year break from doing any real machining work, then bough a Sherline Mini-Mill/Lathe, which got me back into playing with it.

Last spring, I got the lathe (a Southbend 10K) and last fall, I picked up the mill (Craftex B096) The price for each of them was good, and in fact, I picked up a spare Southbend 9A lathe with taper attachment too. Both lathes cost me $1000, and the mill was the same. Both came with assorted tooling and parts, so all up, I'm into the setup for around $2500-ish, but the equivalent lathe would run you easily $2000 new from King, and the equivalent mill would be about $1700 from BB, with the cost of the tooling added on top to end up around $3000 for the package I got.

If you watch the used tool areas (kijiji) you can find some smoking deals sometimes. My $5500 worth of machine tools came to me for less than half that.

My machining skills are improving with each project I work on, but most of my projects end up being winter ones....summers are way too busy with shooting!

NS

I used to have one but sold it after a couple weeks.
I could not find anywhere to buy 37mm flares (even from Questar who sells the silly launcher).
I considered making an adapter so I could use 12ga flares but the temptation to run 12ga shot through it would be too great for me to resist and I didn't want to lose all my guns and go to jail over something silly like creating prohibited single shot firearm.
They look cool on your gun but add too much weight to be at all practical without being able to do something besides shoot an expensive flare at the gun range.

YMMV

Is our only option build our own or spikes tactical. I have seen stand alone units in the states for under 200. I have access and know how to reload. Already have 5 5 1/2 inch hulls to reload. Would rather a stand alone unit.

Yes, isn't it strange that those retailers who sell 37mm launchers rarely if ever stock 37mm training type rounds? Even reloading components are difficult to find. Strange.
