Did you make certain your 92 was in fact still in .38-40 ? It was common practice years ago to simply rebore a .38-40 when it wore out or the bore become inaccurate.... I have seen a number of rhese over the years, caliber not remarked....
Was this old CIL brass by any chance ?
Pull the bullets of the remaining cases, anneal the cases, reload, you should have better life from the brass.
Better yet we sell new brass and new ammo for this caliber....
