38 Army Special ammo

Just bought a Colt 38 Army Special revolver. Anyone ever shot 38 special in this gun or do you have to use 38 colt ammo ?

Colt Army Special's are chambered in .38 Special, et al. .38 Long Colt was used in earlier revolvers like the M1889/M1895(New Army's also came in .38 Special though). They all look identical.
Anyway, a .38 Special is too long to fit in a .38 Long Colt cylinder.
