38 S&W bullets

Any one have any idea where I can obtain 38 S&W bullets for my Webley? I haven't cast since the 80's but may have to start again.

i'm not sure if either places have it, but i believe jethunter on here sells them and maybe the bullet barn.
 
hmm... he had a post in the ammo section, but i can't seem to find it. send him a PM and see what's up, although he will likely see this thread.
 
Any 38 cal revolver will swage bullets to the diameter of .350 on lands and .359 in the groves when fired. .357 bullets that are commonly available in various shapes and weights, will do the job just as good as if they were loaded in 38 sw or 357 magnum. Even .356 bullets for 9mm will be good to go. Thus looking for unobtaneum bullets in .360 diameter is really pointless for 38sw cartridge.

Interesting concept to say the least. :)

That certainly hasn't been my experience with any cartridge. In my experience, undersize lead bullets shoot poorly.

I agree with you on that Jethunter. My Webley and S&W 38/200 agree with you as well. The only way I seem to be able to get decent accuracy out of them is with hollow base bullets.

The 38/200 is a Smith and Wesson but it is built for the British version. What the difference is I can't tell. The old S&W MP I have chambered in 38S&W seems to perform well with either solid base or hollow base. Everything other than barrel length measures within .001 of each other. Go figure. The lands may be a bit wider on the 38 S&W MP.

As far as being different animals, mostly in name only.
 
I f you are shooting a .38" Webley or Enfield check the diameter of the cylinder mouths. The dozen I have checked average .3565"
S&W .380" average .361".
IMHO and experience a soft lead bullet is needed to get accuracy with the Webley or Enfield since the bullet is swaged down in the chamber mouth and then needs to expand to fill the grooves in the barrel.

Well, what ever you guys want to load in to your revolvers is up to you, but all my sw, colt and webly revolvers at muzzle end of the barrel measure .350 lands -.356 groove. So when you load your .361 bullets in 38sw cartridge they will still end up .356 diameter when they leave the barrel. Watch out for overpressure signs and blast away.
