well had some fun today trying a few new loads out

the 110grn worked fine over 2.5grn over win 231

So I wanted to find something closer to the original 38/200 loads, and I loaded up a few (10) 180grn XTP over 1.4grn win 231.

Now wouldn't you know it first round went bang and I thought, hmmmm something wasn't right. Stop and check the cylinder and bore and there is a bullet stuck. pound it out, and thinking that it might have been something wrong with the round I loaded another, bang, hmmmm so I packed up the revolver and fired off 25rds of 300WM and 20 rds 25-06

so the sholder got a bit of a work out today anyways.

My Speer 11 manual has a

158 grain lead swc W231, 2.3 gr 593 fps, 2.6gr 671 fps

Sorry no info on 200 grain

manual states a break open revolver (enfield) Bullets over 125gr jacketed are not recomended because of limited powder space. (I believe because of a short cylinder length)

Max working press 14,900 CUP

When I played around with light revolver loads, I discovered that a stuck bullet could be hydraulically pushed out by filling the barrel behind the bullet with water then firing a primer with no powder behind it. The bullet would normally drop out on the floor, but occasionally it would take a couple of shots to clear it. In any case, this proved easier on the gun than pounding the bullet down the bore.

I had 200 gr data, loaded in trimmed .38 Special brass, that I had worked up for use in my Victory and Enfield revolvers. Sadly that is long gone. However, all is not lost because there is 200 gr load data in Ken Waters' "Pet Loads". Pressure was determined from case head expansion -

The FMJ MkII .380" ctg with 178 gr bt had a tendency to stick in S&W and Colts.
