.38 special and HP-38 with 158gr CMJ Round nose ?

Looking for advice on the amount of powder to use. I checked Hodgdon site but not sure with their info. My OAL is 1.480 and plan to start with 3.5gr and max out at 3.7gr. What do you think? Thanks

i seat my berry 158 gr bullets which are .688" long at 1.520" i can't recall any loads using hp-38 that i've used, (normally i use bullseye) but looking at the data hodgdon has your good to go. my lyman 49th edition says for 231(same thing as hp-38) to start at 3.5gr and 4.0gr max 1.445 (but it's a flat nose bullet)

Thanks I also have Lyman 49th but not an exact match. My bullets are also .685.
Just came back from the range and 3.7gr seems perfect for me.
