.38 Special Revolver, is there still love?

Next year I want to buy a .38, since I do not have one right now. I want to do something a little different and the Uberti colt open tops and conversion revolvers have caught my eye.

I've drifted more towards single actions lately. I love the easy pace, the grips, and the elegant 7" barrels.

Great trade credit at the range too when someone else has a gee-whiz gun that I'd like to try ;)

^Agreed! But I scratch this itch with the Ruger Old Army myself.

Cheers.......

38 Special is one of the greatest rounds ever invented.Accurate, low recoil and best of all, cheap as all hell if you reload. If you cast your own bullets, you can damn near shoot 38 at near 22lr cost. Bullseye loads mean brass last nearly forever too.

I have a ton of handguns, wheel, single shot, and semi-auto in 7TCU, 38/357, 32 S&W, 32 mag, 45 auto and 22LR. I shoot way more 38 Special then all others. It's cheap, fun, and doesn't rattle my fillings loose with blast. My 14 year old daughter can shoot it all day. My Rossi lever action rifle gobbles it up. And my RCBS Green Machine will reload the brass in a flash. I used to shoot IPSC with it against lots of semi autos and I was never in the bottom of the pack.

I have a couple of S&W revolvers in 38/357 a Taurus in .32 Long, & a couple of ruger .32 mag revolvers that are all fun to shoot. I like them all, & use them more than my semi's because I hate picking up the brass.

Model 64, 14, & 65's

One in .38 Spl. & .32 Long

.32 mag Ruger single sixguns...

Like "Stompin Tom" use to sing,....My back still aches when I hear that word! (semi);)

The venerable .38 Special....

Yeah, I still shoot .38 Spl...

First two are dedicated .38 Spls, the later all .357's but still mostly get .38 Spls shot through them.

I figured I'd load pyrodex in 45 colt to scratch the cap n ball itch a bit more cleanly, but didn't figure on that heavy brass not obturating worth a darn and the gun got almost as filthy a backside as the cap n ball does, thanks to the blow back in the cylinder. ;)

I was new to both 45 colt and the SAA at the time.

It's a pity that we can't get .32cal revolvers any longer, for those of us who aren't granddaddied. Some mad money might see me picking up a Blackhawk in .30carbine some day to compensate, or a Nagant if there is ever another import.

I fondly remember my father's S&W Combat Masterpiece Model 15. I now regret not getting my 12(6) so I could have kept it.... even though it had a lethal 4"bbl.

Even though I love to shoot my Glock I had to buy this Colt Officers Model match from a CGN member. It was manufactured in 1954 and appears to be in very good condition, I really like the looks and feel of the fully checkered walnut target grips, they don't make them like that any more. I just started the transfer and I'm looking forward to sending a few rounds down range.

I love shooting revolver and .38 special is my favourite calibre. Never get tired of it.

wheel guns especially 38 special are still my favourite extremely accurate and no reason to bend down and pick up spent brass which is a plus with arthritic knees

For the past year I've been using a revolver in IDPA events. I have to bend down to pick up the brass but at least it's all right there within arm's reach along with the speed loader.

And don't let anyone tell you that a revolver is automatically slower than a semi. We have this clamshell target which only gives about a 1 second window of exposure of the threat target before a no shoot slams up in front. I manage to get 3 rounds on the threat easily and often get 4. Most times the folks with semis can't do better. Just the odd guy manages to pump out 5 from their semi.

WHEELGUNS WRULE ! ! ! ! ! ! :D

I have a PPC open gun - a Model 10 with a slab side barrel and Wichita rib - I don't shoot it a lot, but it always satisfies.

A Quick Note - revolvers are mechanically faster than semis - there's no dwell time as the slide cycles, so technically a revolver can be shot faster than a semi.

There is a place in my safe for the right one when it shows up at the right price. All else being equal I'll take a .357Magnum for flexibility but shoot mostly .38Special. A S&W K-frame to go with my .22 seems most appropriate.
