Good Afternoon Folks

Looking for some information on .38 special ammunition.
Where is the best price/place in Eastern Canada to buy?
Is there any such thing as surplus .38 special in Canada?
Can a Smith and Wesson model 10 handle +p loads? How can I determine this?( I may have to ask this question in a different forum) Thank you to all.

I wouldn't use +P in a model 10... What is you purpose for shooting? PPC competition or just basic plinking? Might wanna check out combat masters for ammo...

"...such thing as surplus .38 special..." Nope. It's cheap as it is. No old police ammo was ever released for sale to the public either. Reloading is the best way to go though.
"...model 10 handle +p loads?..." A new production one will. Older Model 10's like the revolvers cops used to carry probably not. Mind you, in those days there was no such thing as +P.

Contact Complete Gunsmithing in St. John"s, at 709-738-6310. They have a large quantity of .38 Spl and .38 Spl+P for sale at about $5.00 per box of 50.
All factory ammo, Federal, Winchester, etc.

Any Model 10 that is post war manufacture will handle a LIMITED diet of +P 38s. Get the serial number off the gun and check some of the S&W sights for approximate manufacturing date (keep in mind S&W has been building that gun for well over 100 years). If it's an older gun DO NOT shoot +P in it. Really, unless it's a defense gun, you don't need +P anyway, but that's up to you. Yes, there was surplus 38 back in the day (they were issued to military forces in various places for various reasons), but I haven't seen any in decades. I have no idea where in Eastern Canada you would buy ammo, maybe some of our eastern brethren can chime in on that. - dan

.... As to the S&W Model 10 handling +P loads; yes and no ! The later ones, yes, IE those with a "D" prefix to the serial number certainly, SOME of the later "C" prefixed ones a qualified yes. Earlier ones NO! Bear in mind that the +P ammunition is quite a bit "warmer" than the standard 38 Special ( approaching, and in some cases, equaling, low end 357 Mag. velocities) so, wear is greatly accelerated, if fed a steady diet of +P ! ( One of the reasons advanced for the RCMP to do away with the issued, "J" Framed guns, and trade the Model 10 in for a 9mm pistol ) ...... David K.
