hello guys,
i need your feedback with regards to these 2 calibers, just wondering if these 2 cal are using the same brass but differ only in loads, can a typical 38spl take the pressure of the +p loads, my gun is a 586 so problem with the pressure is not a concern, only the brass. trying to find a load using Tightgroup to reach the power factor of 125. thanks in advance

Yes they are the same brass. Some will be marked +P but that is only because they were factory loaded to +P. If you look in a manual that lists pressures you will see that the +P loads aren't a lot higher than the regular loads. Where you have to be careful with +P is with aluminum cylinder or very old guns.

I've seen some people shooting IPSC Major loads with 38 Special brass but I wouldn't recommend it. Brass wont last as long anyways. And if you don't loose your 357 brass what's the point?

Hi, ffgats. A Plus P .38 Special is just a hot .38Spec. load. Less than any .357Mag though. I'd suggest you use .357 brass loaded to .38 specs though. Using .38 Spec. brass in a .357 cylinder leaves a lube ring. Not a big deal, just a cleaning thing. Using .357 brass makes it go away with no fuss.

This is true, but a Hoppes 38 cal Tornado brush cures that problem.

This is true too, but a lot of matches you cannot pick up brass until the end of the day. .357 brass get expensive, but 38 brass is peanuts. Now that would change if you paid the money for the moonclip conversion, beacuse you are now picking up the moonclips with the brass still atteached.

I use .38Special brass.

RePete.
