Why are there two diameters? I guess it doesn't matter if they both work but I see some manufacturers make some .356" and others list 38 Super that are .355" in diameter. Why is that? Is one better than the other?

The older supers took a fatter bullet. Keep in mind that until after WWII, 9x19 was fairly exotic in North America, and barrel makers tooled up for revolver diameters.

Now, most barrel makers stick to a standard .355 bore.

So should I contact the maker of my gun and ask them which diameter to use or is it safe to use both sizes?

What make is it?

If it's a Colt made before the 80's, it's fair to assume it will run best with .356-.357 bullets. It will likely run fine with .355 bullets, but the velocity and accuracy might be iffy. Some experimentation is called for.

It's safe to use both sizes.

But not at the same time. If you stretch the barrel out using .356" bullets and then use the .355s you'll get crappy accuracy. You have to let the barrel shrink back down, usually overnight.

Most .355" bullet when mesures with a micrometer are actually .3555" or .356"
I used 9mm bullets in my 38 Super I don't care about the actual size....just about the accuracy of the bullet, try a few MG they are good so are the winchester....and Hornady HAP

I emailed Les Baer and was told that both .355 and .356 are OK to use... If that's the case would I lose any accuracy using .355"? Or is it so close that it doesn't matter?
