This might get moved to the reloading forum, but until then, and since it's IPSC related, I'll put it in here. I'm shooting an STI Trubor in .38 Super and have been trying to find a consistent load. Having just started shooting open division a couple of months ago, I'm still trying to work up that load. Standard was much easier for this. Here are two loads that I have tried so far.

9.4grns of HS-6 with a 115grn BDX FMJ RN.(The gun stays a little more level, but for some reason the accuracy is not great)

9.3grns of 4756 with the same bullet.(A little more muzzle flip, but seems more accurate. Also, the case is almost full to the top)

I tried some 124's a few months ago, but got a good deal on the 115's so I took them. It just seems that I'm getting a little more muzzle flip than I should for a comped gun, and have been told to find a load that works best for that style of comp and caliber. Since the Trubor seems quite popular, I though others in here with more experience than I using the same gun could throw me some advice. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

8.3 to 8.5 of Vhit 3n37 works well under a 125 so a little more would be ok with 115s.
The 4756 is a good choice as you can get it locally, at least in Hamilton area.
HS-6 seems dirty and I get poor accuracy as well with RN bullets. Try some Hornady 125 HAP if you can get them.

For accuracy, I like the 124's better. High volume charges with 115's will keep the gun flat, but I don't get the accuracy I want. You could always try a slower powder with the 124's, or you could try a faster powder with the 124's like 7625 which will flip a bit but feels like a mousefart in your hands recoilwise which some shooters claim help them shoot faster. Todd Jarrett and Max Michel I believe use 7625. I load short OAL- 1.150" ammo and use HS6 and Longshot which works good with the small capacity cases (9mm/9x21).

I was using a Trubore up until I switched divisions recently, and IPSIK's 3n37 load was the one I had settled on after extensive testing of HS6, HS7, 4756, 7625, 3N38, N350 and SP2.

Also, shooting 115's will probably give you tendonitis and if you have to shoot them indoors or near a barricade or window....even outdoors.... they are a LOT more punishing to the shooter. The blast wave is absolutely ferocious, so if the nominal perception of flatter shooting is an acceptable trade-off, go for it. Try playing with your recoil springs too. If you are over-sprung you will perceive more recoil in the way of muzzle flip.

I too have to agree with IPSK and Rob, I have settled on 3N37 with 125g Hornady bullet, however Hornady has priced themselves so that even myself who was there distributor can't afford to shoot them, I am now importing ZERO bullets at reasonable price and they are just as good as Hornady.

Thank you for your replies. I'll have to look into using Vhit and see what the costs are. Also, next time I get some bullets I'll have to bring in some 125's for some testing. I have heard that Rob Leatham used 130's in open, and would not shoot 115's for some of the reasons listed above. Don't know if that's true or not, but it gives me a reason to try something new. Someone told me that Vhit is twice the price, which would limit my shooting considerably. I'll check it out for myself though. Not sure who supplies it. Also, in the Trubor, it came with an 8 pound recoil spring from the factory. It was too light. The gun wouldn't cycle. I put a 10 pound in and it seems to run fine. Now that it's got 3000 rounds through it, maybe the 8 pound will work again. Thanks again.

I have used Viht 3n37 for several years now; I love the powder. Lot to lot consistency is excellent as well. Hardest part is getting your hands on it without paying through your nose.

With 115's, I load between around 8.8 grains, but go down to 8.5 with 121's.
