.380 vs 9mm

I was under the impression that the muzzle energy limit for handguns in Brazil is 300 ft/lb which basically means .38 Special or .380 is the maximum. Those are the most powerful calibres allowed in Mexico as well but for different reasons, the law and regulations basically classify anything over that as for military use only.

The laws seem to mean different things on the ground it would seem. At the end of the day, we listen to what the customers want.

In talking with one buyer from Mexico, the locals who want to shoot IPSC (rules if not in fact IPSC) were rechambering guns for the .380, playing with spring rates, and generally expecting brass to be useless after 2 reloads.

We asked about our 9mm Makarov, but it seems that exists in a grey area. The law describes civilian calibers as being 9x17 and less, and military calibers as 9x19 and greater. The 9x18 had been let in, but currently is unimportable.

The felt recoil of a .380 comes from the design of the pistols it's found in(most of which are evil, like ghostie says.), not the cartridge. And neither has "stopping power". No pistol cartridge does. Think physics.
The HK VP70 is a piece of junk. It's the only pistol I've ever seen that was panned by one of the gun rags, in 40 plus years. Guns and Ammo, I think it was, called it a Jam-a-matic. Originally designed as a machine pistol, it had a crappy trigger and wouldn't shoot worth beans.

I still want one

I have a Browning BDA in .380 which I love. It's modern, double stack, and 10 rd factory Beretta mags are like 20 bucks. The only downside is that ammo is $20 a box (even that crappy Norinco), and I don't really shoot it enough to reload, although I have been thinking about it, but it's a fairly small cartridge, and I have fingers like sausages.

When I go to the range I usualy bring my GLOCK 17 and my .380 (Baikal) Markov. I enjoy the .380 due to the less recoil compared to the GLOCK but finding ammo is a pain. Its also about the same price if you can find some .380.
If I had to chose between the two calibers to defend myself, I would go with the 9mm (regardless of type of firearm).

It does look a bit dorky with the little barrel nub sticking out but oh well!

You must have physically removed your subscription to that thread.
You also failed to inform us whether your Llama 380 was prohib' or restricted classification.

Nope, just really too lazy to physically move the mouse enough to highlight the link. After a ten hour work day then making dinner and playing with the kids/helping with homework I was pretty tired.

You're right I didn't mention if it was a prohib or not, because, well, it's kinda obvious that it's a prohib...hint: take a guess at the barrel length...
