I want to start loading 38S&W using round nose lead. But it seems to be difficult to find. Could I load semi wad cutters with my RCBS three die set. It says RN on the die's box.
Thanks
Give it a try and see what happens. You might get funny looking marks on your bullet though. I shoot undersize bullets (.356-.358) in my Enfield Tanker and it works fine for what it is. Wait until you check for leading.
try to reload with the 148gr hbwc bullet from hornady. I use this bullet in my enfield and it's unbelievable. the hollow base expand and slug the barrel ! use 2.5 gr of unique and seat the bullet at 1.060 ( you can use your standard seater without problem), this load make 1 1/2 inch group at 10 yrd.
There is a lyman mould that is supposed to drop 195 grain round nose in .359" and they have a .360" sizer that is supposed to be as close to the .38/200 load as you can get. I just got a pre-victory M&P in 38 S&W, and have been thinking of going this way.
PS - I shot it the other night with store bought Winchester 145ga lead and it shot a 3" group off hand at 25 yrds. with a 3" drop from point of aim. Not bad I thought for an old gun.

I use the hollow base wadcutter and 9mm dies. I don't have the bigger diameter bullets, but the soft lead skirt of the hollow base probably seals perfectly.
