.38supercomp interchangeability with .38super

I'll try to mike some tonight, but I think the web is a bit thicker as it was designed for high pressure IPSC loads at old Major.

That is supposed to be one of the differences. My understanding is that .38TJ, which has the same external dimensions as supercomp, has an even thicker web resulting in smaller case capacity, but this is not a significant difference.

An interesting debate...

Notice the no one has mentioned stories about converting a supercomp into a super....And why would you do such a thing?

.38 super has been around FOREVER, and brass is relatively cheep compared to 9x23/supercomp or TJ, and you can buy factory ammo if you have to (as in you land in Europe and discover your ammo didn't make it with you).

IMHO, unless you are shooting a big stick in the US a lot supercomp isn't worth it. Having said that, if you have the money - go for it.

I did, the gun I'm shooting now was built as a supercomp with a 9mm breechface, I opened it up to accept Super because at the time I was having trouble getting Supercomp and I knew someone who was bringing in a lot of Super. It runs perfect with either, but given the choice, it'll always be shooting Supercomp. Learning from that I ordered my IMM in Super and shoot both out of it, I still have a small pile of brand new super sitting around, almost broke it out this year when supplies were short.

Think of it like this, there are guys out there who just shoot brass they found on the range. It will work, but are you gonna chance it in a big match? Some do, you'll see them swearing during a stage when the gun pukes. I always use new or once fired (of mine, not range droppings) in big matches, I know it's going to work.
Super works, but since there is something out there that is better, why wouldn't you use it?

*perk*....
Ok so how/who did you have open up the breach? and by how much?
This is pretty much the crux of my original post....

I have TONS of super, an opportunity to buy a supercomp...and there you have it.

Thanks,
DC

Did it myself, bt hand, I'll have to measure it to see how it ended up, I took it to .405 initially then opened it up a thou at a time until the Super would feed reliably.

Or, if you have an SV slide with one of the interchangeable breechfaces, swap out the 9mm breechface and put in the .38 super one. I have both.
