3lb centerfire rifle?

I was @ the range 2 years ago when a couple of very seasoned sheep hunters showed up with Rambling Rifles. Off a very elborately modified rest, their 200 yd groups were 4-5 moa. The guns looked like they would snap in half in a stiff wind and it felt like you were holding an empty super soaker.

4-5 moa will still make many sheep shots. Better be good on the stalk though. :/

I am never sure why someone that puts the work into such a high end hunting rifle would ever use a rest though.

The Kifaru is a very interesting concept, I've never personally fired one though, so can't comment on the accuracy or the way it feels. Other contenders are New Ultra Light Arms, and Les Webernicki of Rifles Inc makes some very light hunting rifles as well. Many years ago I built a 284 on a Rem 600 action, synthetic stock, small Leupold 2-7. Nice mountain gun, still weighed around 6-7 pounds all in, I think. With today's materials, I can see being able to build a 3-4 pound rifle. It would be pretty spendy, though. Modern brakes would solve the recoil issue handily, but true LW rifles are harder to shoot well. Particularly when you're sucking air like a blown hemi because you just crawled up a vertical cliff 200 feet high. Still be an interesting project though. FWIW. - dan
