Does anyone have any experience with a red dot sight and a 3x magnifier?
Im considering adding one to my set up but wanted some thoughts from some guys who already have them.
Im looking to and it to my AR set up with a vortex sparc 2 red dot
I struggle seeing at longer ranges so I thought a bit of help in that department would be good.
A buddy of mine has a vortex strike eagle 1x6 scope on his which is nice but I find it a touch forward heavy
also the cost between the 2 set ups is a big gap Im leaning towards the 3x magnifier but dont want to buy one realizing i should have bought the 1x6 scope in the end
thanks for the help!!

I have a Vortex Crossfire 2 on my gun and did have a Vortex 3x Magnifier on it for a while. I found it adds weight, makes the red dot bloom and the eye relief made shooting from the bench painful. It really wasnt useful. If I was going to go magnified I'd go with something that was a 1-4 or 1-6 power now with a reticle of some kind.

Thanks man,
yeah I was holding back on spending the 3 hundy on something that I had no real experience with.
really appreciate the feedback on this

I have a bushnell 3x magnifier with flip mount. I've been extremely impressed with it. Reticle (eotech) is crisp, eye relief is huge. It fits my bill perfectly. Plus it adds at least 500 operator points.

I dunno where you're at, but if youre close ish you're welcome to throw it on and see how you like it.

I have an AimPoint PRO (I don't use EOTech holographic sight because of astigmatism) with an EOTech G33 3x magnifier and it works great!
It won't beat my 3-15x44 scope but the accuracy and effectiveness is really surprising and I love it.

I used to run an Eotech EXPS2-2 with the Vortex 3x magnifier on my 16" AR. I quite liked the setup, to be honest. The Eotech was awesome 100 yards and in the combination of the lower second dot on the EXPS2-2 and the 3x magnifier made hits on man sized targets out to 500 yards viable. I ended up replacing it with an Elcan OS3X when Eotech did their recall cause it worked out to be a great deal for me but I'd run a rds and 3x magnifier again.

That's great to hear.

I’m running the vortex 3x with a crossfire and i love it so much I bought 2 more.
On a tavor, Kris’s vector and AR

I also considering this setup with an m21, x reticle should still give me defined aiming with a magnified reticle. Any merit to going with a magnifier that's 5x instead? Shooting out to 500-600 M

I use a Holosun with the ACSS reticle and a Burris 3x. I land hits on steel silhouettes at Edson out to 500m pretty reliably. I can't say if a 5x will help more but if I dial down the brightness and do my job, a 3x does the trick.

I'm in the same situation. Played with a eotech xps 3 with eotech magnifier 3x. I found it very interesting. I'm also looking at a leupold VXR patrol 1-4. Thoughts?

I used a Burris 1-6x24 MTAC before buy the AimPoint PRO and EOTech G33 and was never really satsified with it:
looking through the 1-6x24 scope was like aiming through a roll of toilet paper!
The AimPoint PRO and EATech G33 is simply 10x better for short to medium rapid shooting.
For any precision work, like shooting varmint past 100m, the 1-6x24 can't be beat except by a larger scope.

My plan is the keep the RDS/magnifier combo, an excellent 3-15x44 target/tactical scope and sell my 1-6x24 scope.
As in anything in life, you pay for what you get and a good lower power scope is very expensive.

Red dots are super under rated - I have used mine successfully out to 300 meters, so with 3x magnification I think you would be really impressed.
