3x optic for my new Famae... any thoughts?

So I just got a Famae 542, and I'm thinking I'd like to put a lightweight 3x optic on it, as I'm going to be using it for short to intermediate range shooting, and it's already not a lightweight rifle. I'm leaning toward an ACOG TA33, which is around 220 grams, but is a bit more than I want to spend. Does anyone have any suggestions for other more affordable optics around the same weight? I have an Elcan OS3 on another rifle, which is around 415 grams, and I'd like to keep it lighter than that.... maybe 300 grams tops.

Also, the optic should ideally mount pretty low, as the stock is low. I have a cheekpiece on the way, but still, lower would be better. ACOG is a bit higher than I'd like.

So specs: 300g tops, including mount; 3x magnification; low height over bore; illuminated reticle; under $1k. Does the optic I'm looking for exist??

(And I don't need any advice to work out more... I'm not a small or weak guy, I just like rifles to be light and pointable where possible...)

I really like the TA33—just this week I got another on for my FS2000. If you do get one you'll likely want to ditch the factory mount. I ditched the TA55 mount for an American Defense mount which was much smaller and mounted the sight lower, too.

The raised sight rail on the FS2000 means that mounts that work on an AR mount the sight too high but the ADM mount works really well on the FS2000

I just mounted the ACOG on my 542—here's how it looks:

I find the cheekweld a little high with this set-up—usually the stock is right on my cheekbone but with this mount it's on my jawbone. Eye relief was good I don't know how it'd work for shooting. I don't know if there's a lower mount or not. Maybe a cheekpiece would help?

I looked for other lightweight 3X optics and never found any that worked—even fixed magnification scopes are usually twice the weight or more than the TA33. I finally found this one on the EE for under $1000.

Thanks, that's really helpful! I actually have a spare stock, so I've ordered a cheekpiece. I am thinking the TA33 is the answer.

@ Moe - thanks, I have owned both the Vortex Spitfire and AR332, but both are higher and heavier than what I'm looking for.

I'm running a vortex strike eagle on my 540, and removed the rear sight drum so I could run the low profile mount. It's the lowest I could get an optic.

I've got a Hi-Lux CMR 1-4 in a PEPR mount on it now, which is waaay to high and heavy. Suppose I could try a lighter/lower mount...

I know you said 3x but I've been thinking that Leupold Ultralight 2.5x at 6.5oz would make a decent scope for a lightweight build.

I'd even throw in a German No.1 reticle from Korth. Similar to the sight picture of the Elcan that I'm so used to.

Just use some standard Weaved rings and you could have any height you want and be quick detach.

Yeah, I'd love to buy another ACOG or two, but with my current cash flow I'm leaning toward running irons on it for a while! Thanks for the advice so far.

Yah I hear you I'm not purchasing any more acogs for a bit
All my rifles are optic mounted though as I can see worth anything with irons
