I am in the market for a new scope and am looking for a 4-12x40 model.
I currently have a Redfield and really like it but would like to try another brand and see what else is out there. My price range is sub 300 plus tax and shipping if applicable. What I like so far are the following:
Nikon prostaff II
Vortex Diamondback
Leupold VXI
I have looked through the three and am stumped which to buy. The Leupold at the sales price is a great deal but what I could see in store it is comparable to the prostaff II which now claims 98% light transmission. The vortex was good to with a great warranty.
What experience have you guys had with these models? Particularly once you get them out of the store in real life lighting?
Is there anything notably missing? I have looked at the simmons aetec as well and thought they were decent. I wasn't crazy about the Vortex Crossfire. It seems like there is lots of talk about Bushnell having issues but that could be internet hysteria too.
Vortex gets good reviews for warranty if needed. Same with Leupold. Any thoughts on Nikon? Reviews seem mixed there.
I've been watching the EE too but it seems I'd be saving some money just paying full retail
