I'm looking for something in the 4-16x range to top off my new 6.5x55 (Zastava M70...yes it's my chirstmas present from myself... :D ). I'm mostly wanting an adjustable objective and glass that doesn't distort too bad at high magnification(little clouding OK, distortion not) and the usual holds zero etc. I'd prefer as light of a reticle as possible but that's just getting a bit more picky and not a complete deal breaker(unless it's a duplex that covers my entire scope...yes I'm looking at you Zeiss). Also I'd like to stick with a lower magnification on the bottom end as well since this is a hunting rifle and snap shots may be required. Budget I'm trying to aim for is +/- $500. Worst case I'll have to wait and spend more but I'm kind of hoping to get it done for around that.

I am looking at a hawke sidewinder 4x16x50 mildot. It is around 429 plus tax at d&l airguns. Has side focus and looks like a great scope for the money. Great reviews and I going to pick one up for a zastava 300 win mag. Probably 500 with taxes in. Only problem is the scope is heavy and most will be at 4x16. I prefer at least 4 inches of eye relief and a heavy scope for my 300 win mag. But tagged for interest as I am looking for the same scope.

I have a Bushnell 4200 45x16 40mm with AO that I have on a 22-250. Think it cost me around $500ish when I got it a few years ago but I'm going to replace it with a spare Leupold 6x18 40mm so I can get out a bit further.

Thanks for the replies. Never even heard of the Hawkes before.

How far out can you comfortably shoot with your 4.5-16?

If side focus isn't a requirement, Bushnell has a 5-15x40mm in your price range. Generally rings in around 480, but there's a $75 rebate available if you buy it before the 31st and send in right away. It's from their Elite Tactical line, but the parallax adjustment is on the objective bell, some folks don't like that. I don't mind it myself so I've got one for my SPS Tactical to try out.
