Depends if you reload or not. If you reload, buy whatever you want. If you don't reload, don't get a .44 Mag. Commercial ammo is very expensive and you cannot take advantage of the incredible versatility of the round.

I find that if you don't reload, it's best not to shoot any caliber that starts with a 4.

Something that bothers me about one 4" .44 Magnum Redhawk in particular is the tendency it has of unhooking the mainspring under heavy loads. Most inconvenient for a serious gun. My pal Pounder for that reason prefers a gr less powder under his 325 gr WFNs. Has anyone else been plagued with a similar problem?

I had a 5" Redhawk, and didn't like the trigger. Other than that, those things are definitely commercial grade. I doubt you could break one if you tried your best. The shorter barrel makes it look almost as good as my 4" model 29.
