just a pic of the latest project. was a junker # 4 LB action, re barreled with a RKS bbl in 6.5x303. new #4-2 lower beach, bedded. custom made scope mount. seems to be ok so far, going to the range with it tomorow i hope and see what it will do on paper. the ballistics have impressed me so far aswell.

looks good :)

some information on these conversions and load data from Australia.

I've got a take off rem700 barrel in 270 that I'm playing around with and eventually going to mate to an enfield reciever and ream out to 270/303.

then dress it up as a tanker. Got to do something with the junker bubba's I have piled up. :)

Hmm... If you shorten a 700 barrel to the point that enough of the chamber is gone that what is left is smaller than the head diameter of a .303, will the barrel diameter be large enough to turn to suit an Enfield 1x14 shank and leave a shoulder? Or, a collar a la Savage or AIA could be used; would make setting headspace really easy. Just make sure that there will be enough meat to work with.
Interesting rifle, Beater. Well done. Let us know how it shoots.

A full wood tanker Enfield would be cool...good use for a cut barrel...

Beater- How was the new barrel headspaced and how was the front sight base installed? The new bbl wouldn't have bayonet lugs right?

you must have mind reading abilities :D

plan is for a barrel nut like the AIA and Savage rifles, Lots of meat on the 700 shank to turn down the threads and rethread to 1" 14tpi the 700 is about 1 1/8"

and it must be dresssed up like an enfield but since the barrel is short to start with and going to get shorter to allow chambering in 303Brit the end result will be a barrel about 19". I have a No5 but always had a shamefull desire  to own an enfield tanker.

How would a tanker be done? That would be cut down full wood? Perhaps we can find some pics of them on one of the US bubba sites...

ive done a tanker allready. its a good use for one that has had the bbl shortened a bit. i cut down a set of wood. there is a pic of it hear, with the rest of em.
as for attaching the front site, the bbl is turned to the same dimentions as the originall bbl.i used locktight to place it and get it where its supposed to be, then when its hardened, i drill the hole through and pin it like its supposed to be. true it doesnt have the lugs on the bbl there, but ive done a few now, and it hasnt give any probs so far.it was headspaced when it was reamed, and built. turned out perfect, and has a nice tight chamber.actually there are 2 tankers i guess there. the one came from century, it was what they called a " royal comando". it had the wood just cut straight off though. i made up a better set of wood for it. it is in 7.62 and i added a 2A1 mag. it had the jungle carbine flash hider on it from century. quiet a collection of parts, but by god it will shoot

If you want bayonet lugs, take a scrap barrel and bore out the muzzle portion to make a sleeve. Turn down the new barrel and install the sleeve on it. Voila.
Another way of fitting a front sight is to sweat the front sight onto a scrap barrel, then cut off the sight base section and bore it out until it fits the new barrel. You can go larger, the remnants of the lugs fill the notches in the base. Then use a bonding agent, a pin, or a setscrew to lock the sight base to the barrel.

thats the problem with most of the bubbas that i shorten allready however, is that someone else has allready removed the bayonet lugs, and they are long gone. usually the bbls are shortened up an inch or so to get rid of the lug portion of the bbl

What a cool way to refurb a bubba. It sure looks like a handy little rifle and the bull barrel looks perfect as a tanker. So is there a Delisle in there somewhere Beater? Even without a functioning suppresor a delisle repro would be pretty cool.
I don't have anywhere close to the skill to make one but I would love to see someone else do one.

Do a search, and you should find photos of mudpuppy's reproductions.
Check with gunsmiths, at gunshows, etc. for scrap No.4s for barrel end salvage.

no delise hear, sorry, but like tiriaq says, they are out there. maybe some day. hear is what happened to the shorty today, as it was to windy to take the 6.5 to the range. haveing good sucsess with the first scope mount on the 6.5 i built another for the shorty and fitted up the holo site. worked ok, but its mighty high. think ill make a sniper comb for it tomorow.
it is an extreamly handy gun, and it is one of my all time faves to pack. it is easy to swing and turn around , say in the cab of a combine.......

well to windy yesterday to get to the range, and today it rained . so, a putter day in the shop. built a comb for the shorty to get my cheek where it should be for the holo site. seemd to be ok so far. made it out of a bubbad butstock, even matches not bad.

well, finally had time to take the 6.5x303BR to the range. did pritty good for the first time out i think. looks like my scope mount will hold to, all seems tight and perfect after 50 rounds through it. hear is a pic of the last 5 through it, when it was hot. doin pritty good for an enfield action i think, and this is the first test load. the little square is an inch.
