I really want to use my new RFB for hunting but if I do without a 4 or less mag I risk loosing a lot. Does anyone make such a mag?

I figure I should get it now before the season starts if they exist. If not what is an acceptable method for pining the mag?

Might be the alchool but I am confuse! Your 5/20 or 5 round mag your rfb came with is perfectly legal for hunting! As any fal mag pinned to 5 round.

I could be wrong, but I don't actually see anything in the NB wildlife act that states a magazine capacity limit on firearms for hunting.
http://laws.gnb.ca/en/showdoc/cs/F-14.1

Here they mention the .23 calibre limit outside of our "big" game seasons, but no mention on magazine capacity here either.
http://www2.gnb.ca/content/gnb/en/departments/natural_resources/wildlife/content/Firearms.html

The only mention I see anywhere of a capacity limit is the 3 round limit for a shotgun mentioned in the federal migratory bird hunting regulations.
http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/C.R.C.,_c._1035/page-6.html#h-11

So it looks to me like they simply follow the federal mag capacities for everything other than migratory bird hunting.

EDIT: Found these regulations under the wildlife act (the ones that state the calibre restrictions, among others):
http://laws.gnb.ca/en/showpdf/cr/84-133.pdf

Subsection 9(7) states a 3 round limit on shotguns when hunting cormorant, but other than that, I'm still not seeing anything in regards to centrefire magazine limitations when hunting.

If it turns out that you do need a 4 round mag for local hunting regs, an aluminum rivet will be more then acceptable. Finding the correct height to drill it in may take a few tries, but you should be able to get it pinned to 4.5 with not too much trouble.

I was informed it unlawful to use an auto-loading firearm that has the capacity to hold more than 5 cartridges for hunting.

After calling in and speaking to DNR they informed me "it is unlawful to use auto-loading firearm that has the capacity to hold more than 5 cartridges in the magazine" which would be a prohibited device anyways. I have asked for it in writing to make sure, as it seems to vary from one officer to another and I don't want to argue when it counts I would rather just have either the 4 round mag or the correct documentation.

why would you want a 4rd mag?You said you researched and the maximum is 5 so just buy a 5rd mag, most kel tec stocking dealers carry them,I have one and don't like it much it's awkward,I prefer my pined to 5/20 polymer mags for hunting.

Its not about hunting its unlawfull to have a semi-auto riffle or shotgun periode. But 5 round mag are perfectly legal :)

Really? You don't realize that it is the MAGAZINE that has to be capped at 5? The one in the chamber doesn't count. Jesus how did you pass your PAL? Not to mention auto-loading handguns are capped at 10 in magazine so yes 11 is OK with one in the chamber. I'm losing faith in humanity...

I am fully aware and understand the guidelines for CFC requirements for magazines. Most standard hunting rifles I have fired all had a mag well or mag with a max capacity of 3-4 depending on caliber. I have been using firearms for over 20 years and some very black stuff at work overseas that I can't even consider to purchase here.

I started the topic because I have been stopped on more than one time to be checked over by fish & game and the issue was with there officers interpretation which seems to vary.

So yes I know that 5 round mags are completely legal, so are 10 round pistol, and no limit for .22lr in a rifle format. I was looking at buying a cz today that was .223 with a magwell conversion using ar style XRC 10 round pistol mags.

I know come fall when I start using the RFB will attract attention and not nessisarly wanted attention.

So you are just clueless when it comes to hunting regs and/or so paranoid that you want to impose restrictions on yourself not required by law? The antis must love you.

I am not bowing to the anti's rather trying to work within a very backwards thinking province that requires you to register airsoft/nerf toys and requires transport permits for non-restricted firearms.

I am used to being able to drive out to crown land and setting up targets and no one batting an eye in Alberta but here you could lose everything if your not wearing half orange, using the correct caliber, and hold a valid hunting permit in season. Plinking here is nearly viewed as assault with a deadly weapon.
