4 shells in a shotgun for hunting in ON

[7.65 Para]

I understand that the Benelli M4 has a spot for an extra shell, under the bolt.

The ON hunting regs state that:
"You must plug a semi-automatic or repeating shotgun so
that it will not hold more than a total of three shells in the
chamber and magazine combined."

Would I just be expected to either plug the magazine to 1 shell or not use the extra spot under the action?

The way I read it I could have 1 in the chamber, 2 in the magazine and it would still be complying with the regulations.

i just wouldnt use the extra spot personally. one in 2 out. just stick with it cause thats what it says.

Ah, the classic question of whether or not "floating the fourth" is legal... IMHO, the round on the elevator is NOT in the chamber, nor is it in the magazine... But, that's just my opinion...

Not to argue Tick, but no it doesn't. The Ontario Hunting Regs start off by saying that, but the sentence continues on to say... And I quote...

"You must plug a semi-automatic or repeating shotgun so that it will not hold more than a total of three shells in the chamber and magazine combined."

See... Not so clear cut 'eh?

The ramp is neither the chamber or magazine. For all intents and purpose it could be in your pocket.

This is a grey area but I still ask why chance it? First there's a reason the law reads a total of three shots. Second if you get stopped by a fishcop, I'm sure he won't sit there and argue what costitutes the feeding mechanism but I'm pretty sure you'll get a ticket. By definition a magazine is anything that contains a cartridge for storage prior to loading to be fired. The magazine can be any shape but as long as it's attatched and if your gun holds more then three shots total (for waterfowl) you will get a ticket. I'm not going to argue about it, I'm not fast enough to fire three shots anyways. I wouldn't do it.

Im sure I'll get flamed for my opinion on that though. It just might save you from gettng a ticket or having your firearm siezed or something like that.
