I wana pick somthing else up besides target loads to keep in my night stand and practice abit with the rest vs jugs...If there any reason to use 00 for walking around shooting clays, watter jugs, ext... I hear over all even #4 is recomended for home defence because 00 can penetrate walls easy and kill others in your house. Should 00 buck be reserved for hunting, ext or it is an ok target load. These are the only 2 i can find in bulk for a decent price the 00 being more expensive.

If you are just goofing around shooting milk jugs... you might as well buy the cheaper #4 or a target load.

125 or so 3.3mm pellets in #4. Low recoiling and inexpensive...

A shotgun isn't going to take down a house. And if you're shooting at a house you should make sure no one is inside. Use a rocket launcher or tank. The latter being a better all around choice.

IMO, #4 buckshot should be considered big birdshot and not proper buckshot, it looks great on paper {literally} but it can get pretty marginal against reasonably tough target material and/or any kind of a distance. For example, I've seen a pellet or two out of a load fail to exit empty plastic milk jugs at less than 20 yards.

I think it'd make a great indoor load where penetration is a concern, but outdoors it's best used for coyotes and the like.

Not to get on the legalities of home defense or anything, but I am sure bird shot will work fine in a home defense situation.
I KNOW #5 lead blows nice big 4" holes in my 1/2" plywood target board at 6 yds, and doesn't do much after that.

Lotsa youtube videos on bird vs. buck, but of course it all depends on what you want to do. :)

I can see why some claim Buckshot isn't appropriate for large game, penetration at a distance looks questionable. Up close though #4 Buck looks pretty potent. The #8 looks like it would leave a VERY ugly mark at close range. I've read a bit about the effectiveness of birdshot out of a shotgun...I'd have to say that up close that first load would give you the urge to take a little nap.

That's what I've seen too. Birdshot will blow a nice hole at close range... I think I was shooting around 15ft (like many rooms in your house). Top is 7.5, bottom is 00.

Federal Premium 12GA 2 3/4" Magnum #4 Buckshot (34 copper plated pellets) @ 1100 fps

Federal Premium 12GA 2 3/4" Magnum 00 Buckshot (12 copper plated pellets) @ 1250 fps

BOTH are Amazing 2 3/4" Magnum Buckshot loads and perform great from my Mossberg M590A1 14" Compact.

A very serious load is the Federal 12GA 3" Magnum /# 4 Buck with 41 pellets at 1,100 fps.

Again, legalities aside, I think birdshot would make a hell of a mess up close. It says #8 won't pierce skin at 55 meters, but I sure wouldn't stand there and catch a cloud of it!

Above and beyond all that's been said, birdshot is cheap fun at the range in the field... what's more to like?

I did pick up some Dominion 00 Buck and low recoil slugs from canadammo.com and look forward to the entertainment.
Here's a video of some dominion ammo testing, thanks to Youtube:

In South Saskatchewan I used 00 buckshot on jackrabbits. Effective at out to 75 yards IF your shotgun likes it.

In redneck Alberta I can assure anyone that 00 buckshot will down a flying ruffie at 60 yards, no problem.

Sometime this fall I will have some hunting stories about 10 gauge #4 buckshot in BP shotshells. hehehe.....

00 Buck at 55 yards ended up on the rib cage on the opposite side of the deer in this case:
https://youtu.be/41wBr7-QQlI
It broke a rib on the opposite side, but didn't exit.

Interestingly, 12ga TriBall fires 3 projectiles with one press of the trigger, each with the same energy as 5.56mm NATO from an M4. So as far as energy is concerned, a 12ga shotgun is the same as an M4 on 3-round burst. So Joe Biden is half right!

I can never find #4 Buckshot anywhere...
The stores have a very limited selection of Buck, yes.

Is 000 (triple) buck sold anywhere? I can't remember seeing that stuff on any shelf.

Yeah, and it's actually reasonably common, what's tough to find on hand, especially in case quantity, is #1 buck.

000 and #1 buck are my favorite buckshot loads in regular 2.75" format.
