Recently acquired a gorgeous Martini action in the above caliber. The seller was gracious enough to provide good load data.

It is in BP though, Goex 2F.

While I know that there are some BP subs out there, however what I'm gathering is that they are just as corrosive...

...plus there is the whole:

BP - volume
Smokeless - weight

Is there a sub (for Goex 2F) that provides the benefit of easy cleaning of smokeless, however on par with BP?

Or is this simply a pipe dream?

Trailboss would be a safe bet. Don't have any exp with this cartridge, but its a simple formula to follow.
Fill the case with TB to the bottom of the seated bullet. Pour it out and weigh it. Thats the max load. Take off 10% to get your starting load.
 
Where you are matters.
Buy a copy of Lyman's BP Handbook and Loading Manual. BP substitutes are discussed. Pyrodex being one. BP cartridge loads are discussed too.
.40-70 BN 2.1" brass isn't cheap stuff, if you don't have any. Mind you, there a 3 different .40-70 BN's too. Dies are expensive and will be a special order.

I do not know if you have ever used real bp, but if you have not, don't believe all of the misinformation out there on the web. There are LOT of people out there who talk about bp but actually know nothing of it :D

BP cartride rifles are very easy to clean. Certainly easier and faster that cleaning a modern rifle shooting jacketed bullets. The only requirement is that you clean shortly after shooting. Don't put it away dirty. None of my rifles need more than 6 or 7 patches to clean.

The only real chore is that you have to clean the cases. That part is definitely more work :D. I use test tube brushes and hot water with soap. Let them dry, tumble them if it makes you happy.

I used Goex "Clear Shot" for several years and found that it worked perfectly and cleaned up just like smokeless powder. For some reason "Clear Shot" has been discontinued but I have been told (haven't tried it myself) that American Pioneer Powder's "Gold" black powder substitute works just as well.

Dies are already on order from Huntington's, will be using 45-70 cases necked down and trimmed; also have a mold being made at NEI Handtools (.408).
