What kind of loads are you guys shooting for practive/in matches? What are the most popular bullet weights and powders? I am new to loading .40, any information would be appreciated.

Probably smokeless powder if I had to guess and in sufficient quantities to propel a properly sized projectile down the barrel.
Not much help am I?
When I shot 40 in PD I used Win 231 and 180gr bullets for SD maybe heavier is even better?

5.8 WSF with 180 Cdn BDX

With OAL of 1.135", this load for my 5" 1911 makes 175'ish power factor (ymmv).

I'm about ready to start reloading my .40 CZ TS for ipsc and am interested in this as well
At the moment I have 231, and tighgroup powder, 180 BDX bullets Federal 100 primers
Any thoughts on the OAL would be appreciated as well

In my Infinity 5" barrel-sightracker I run 4.8gr of TG over 180gr Zero bullet.
OAL is 1.165-170". Primers no matter, as long as hammer spring can deal with them.

PF is 174, measured couple weeks ago at Area6

4.8gr of Clays with 180gr Cam-Pro bullets at 1.220-1.225'' OAL out of my SV 5" sighttracker gives me arround 175-176PF. Do not use this load if you are gonna load shorter than 1.220"! Works very well for me.

+1,not too picky on what projectile, but that's what I use.

3.5 gr of TG up to 5 will work. Be super careful on seating depth. A tiny bit shorter on .40 raises pressure a lot. 3.5 is where a Glock might not lock back the slide on the last shot, or maybe 3.4...
I load 3.8 or 3.9 for production IPSC. Reliable like crazy and shoots nice.

Load 5+gr and blow something up and blame me and I'll kick your ass myself, always start low and figure it out yourself.

I prefer 180gr .40 at 3.8gr because I compete with it and it shoots nice.
