40 S&W / 10mm Question

You CAN fire .40 in the 10mm S&W 610. You CAN'T in semi's.

The cartridge is supposed to headspace on the chamber mouth. Sticking a .40 in means the case will be headspacing off the front edge of the extractor if your lucky. I'm sure many will post that they have done it, but it's not recommended.

Now, aftermarket barrlels are often available to convert 10mm to .40.

A 40 S&W can be fired in a Glock 20 10mm because the extractor on a Glock is strong/big enough to hold onto the rim of the case and keep it firmly in place.

The worst case scenario really is that the bullet could jump the extractor and not fire because the firing pin would not contact the primer.

Like Canuck said though it isn't something that is recommended even in the Glock.

I know you can just download the 10mm to 40sw velocities but I was just thinking that the brass price on 10mm would be quite expensive. In fact I don't recall ever seeing the price for 10mm brass.

So a glock 20 will accept a .40 cal round? Does anyone know what a .40 cal barrel would cost? Is a 10mm barrel made better than a 40 cal glock .22 barrel/chamber?

Steve.

$165.00 US funds for a drop in barrel from KKM Precision http://www.kkmprecision.com/PubCat_view.asp around $200.00 + US from Barsto http://www.barsto.com/ and may need some fitting if I remember right. Check E-bay out just type in Glock 20 barrels. Another company is http://www.lonewolf.dist.com/

I personally have a 6" Barsto 10mm barrel in my Colt Delta Elite which was fitted by Dlask Corp years ago. A 5" KKM 10mm barrel in my G20. I prefer the KKM only because it is a drop in barrel.

My next handgun purchase is hopefully going to be a 3 gen Glock 23 40S&W which I will have to purchase in the States convert the barrel to a longer one (0.36" longer barrel) so it is not a prohib anymore. I have also been thinking about a 40S&W barrel for my G20.

The best thing about this is that you can shoot multiple calibers out of the same gun by only changing a barrel.

Brownells sells the Beckham design.

Yup but Moon Clips and Speedloaders are on the state department hit list and you need export permits to get them into the country.. These are not ITAR items so the $100 exemption does not apply....

Yeah...Came down November 1...

But good news is Brownells hasn't updated their site yet so you may be able to order and It could slip though..

thanks for the tip. I just picked up my full moon clips from the post office, they cost more for customs fees and shipping than the clips, but I got them. Can't wait to try them out.
