40 S&W ammo...165gr or 180gr?

I don't shoot a .40, but I'd prefer 165, or lighter. Bullet setback can be a problem with the 180s.

I think bullet setback has nothing to do with the bullet weight. It has to do
with bullet profile as well as the pistol you are shooting... eg. the feed ramp
profile as well as how well the mags deliver the bullet to the feed ramp...
AND REALLY NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT IF YOU ARE NOT conceal carrying,
which usually means unloading and reloading a firearm without firing the
rounds in your mags ...

I have been shooting 40 S&W for about 3 years now and have shot over
48,000 rounds. Have shot 175 grain Lead cast, 200 grain lead cast and now
180 grain plated. By far the best weight for my application, which is IPSC
shooting, is the 180 grain bullet. Easy to make power factor and a nice soft
shooter when using a fast powder like Titegroup or VV N320. Just
remember to always load the round to a long OAL. If you look in the
reloading books they tell you the OAL for 40 S&W should be 1.125" .. I
reload my rounds to 1.200" due to the chamber and throat of my Tanfoglio
LCII.. This will reduce any problems with pressure spikes when using fast
burning powders...

Good luck
