I recently purchased myself a new standard GSG 1911. I’ve had it for a few days and have nothing but complete a full tear down, clean, and reassemble. Of course including mild fondling.
While I had it apart I noticed that the frame looked exactly like that of a full size 1911. I started my investigation by watching reviews online, where I learned that GSG claims 80% of the parts are interchangeable with a standard 1911. I also learned that the magazines and slide will fit on a standard 1911 to serve as a conversion.
I have just started competing in IPSC this last season using a Glock model 22 (.40 S&W). After handling the GSG for a few days, I picked up my Glock to give it random fondles. I no longer like how it feels in my rather large hands.
I have toyed with the idea of trading it for a 1911. But the Glock is very reliable and I trained for IPSC with it. I hold some sentimental value towards it. I would be shot by my lady if I brought home another gun.
So instead I have conceived putting together a conversion kit for my GSG frame from .22 to .40. I have found that all of the parts I would need are available to the American market.
What I need to ask of the CGN Community, is help with the last few pieces of info before I can begin.
I would need to know the dimensions of a single stack .40 magazine for a 1911, If someone knows or has one they could measure, that would be phenomenal.
Second I have used brownells as a starting point to find out what parts are available. Is there a Canadian source that anyone knows of that would sell everything I need?
Thanks in advance for any positive input.

While the parts may be of the same size in all dimensions the materials are not the same. The frame of the GSG is a softer alloy which would likely soon fall apart from the shock of shooting center fire ammo compared to the all steel proper 1911. So this idea of going from a rimfire to a .40S&W is a non starter.

Thank you!!

I assumed that because of the interchangeability rate, i figured i could upgrade the frame. This is why i posted a thread to make sure I would be ok. Now that i know this ill just buy a 1911, and upgrade it if needed.

The interchange works just fine from 70 or 80 model 1911 down calibre. GSG makes a great . 22 conversion kit. And if you grab a bargain milspec 1911 second hand from the EE your in like Flynn.

Hey I think you could grab a Norc and a conversion kit for the same as a GSG.
