can anyone suggest something to shoot standard division in .40 s&w. I was hoping for a 1911 style or something else with a single action trigger like a CZ75B SA. I'm looking to spend $800 or less, new or used. Maybe a pipe dream.

If you like the style of gun and must stick within that budget, look for a NP-40, the Norinco copy of the CZ in .40.

I would pony up the extra money and get a Tac Sport CZ with mag well and aluminum grips from CFRAM.

They have them on for $1039 or so..........for the extra $$ you cannot go wrong comparrted to a NP.

Tanfoglio "L" in 40 - $800; comes with 2 mags; a fully adjustable rear sight,
you can put a FO front sight in it and it's both Single and Double.

The Tanfoglio Matches in 40 are two tone are $1000 and single action only, with all the right sights; if you're interested.

We also have the Combats in 40; $530

Of course, the Limited Custom is $1630 but that might be out of the price range you're looking for.

Some guns were designed to shoot 9 and now they chamber them in 40 and they do not last long shooting IPSC major loads, so be wary of what you pick.
;)

the Limited Custom and STI 2011 (and also a few glocks) are the most popular standard division guns in Atlantic Canada. .
A few Para's are still kicking around though.

Billy,

If your budget is 800 bucks get yourself a production pistol, maybe a Glock22 and start shooting production first. It is a cheaper division to shoot then Standard, unless you are in for fun and not competing.
First year or so learn the ropes of the sport and see what would fit your type of shooting and yourself. Try different guns, from guys like me or others and form your own opinion. This sport cost me more then I want to admit and unfortunately I went wrong way. I started with bad choice pistols till I get to my first STI Edge. In my opinion one of best what it is as a Standard Div is concern, however there are more choices which are more pricey.
Another root to go and probably very good one is to find a friend :) who is a good Standard shooter and talk to him. See what kind of gear he is using....

If you go Production route then imo it will cost you at least 50% or more then that.

Another option to consider is to wait till GA in Greece decides on new Classic Div, which is a single stack division primarily based on 1911 design. Then you can go with STI single stack 9m or .40SW and compete in this new division which I can see will be very popular in Canada.

Good Luck

Thanks for the advice, I have a M&P pro that i will be using for production. I wanted to find a gun that could be competitive without costing a fortune for standard.

IMHO, a gun rig alone (belt, holster, 5 mag pouches) will cost from $100 to $200 if not more. And you will need 5 magazines (so at least 3 extra in addition to 2 mags you'll get with the gun), probably $30..50 each. That doesn't leave much for the gun itself.

I agree with Peter. Spend your money on ammo (or better on reloading equipment) and advanced shooting course and in a year you'll have a better idea what division suits you best.
