Got a gun show coming up next week end. Interested in buying a smallerish body size pistol in 40 S&W. What should I be looking for in a quality hand gun? Give me some options if you will, incase of there being a min selection. Thx in advance for your replies.

If you mean small grip size then I would look for Ruger SR40 or the CZ PO-7 Duty.

A little 12.6 on the back of your Pal opens many more doors...

I just mean for smaller hands, I don't have huge mountain man size hands. I'd like a smaller bodied pistol, that's all. So, 2 on the look list so far. Alas, no 12.6!

Sig 239 has a small single stack grip and is available in 40... CZ75 is a full sized pistol but has a medium sized grip, a 1911 in 40 maybe, I'm not a Glock guy but a compact Glock would also do it for you.

I don't mean to be argumentative, but the Sig P226-series pistols are pretty large. I find mine noticeably larger than my M&P40, particularly with the small palmswell installed.

Does your 226 have the e2 grip or the standard grip? The e2 that he mentioned is considerably smaller. I finally decided I was going to buy a real Sig, went to the store and they only had e2 grips in stock so I passed and thought that was a sign and haven't looked back... Yet. One day.

Hmmm...okay, my 226 has the standard grip on it [had on it, actually...now it wears the Hogue wraparound grip, which is even larger] so I can't state definitely that the E2 grips wouldn't do the trick for the OP. However, I would still maintain that the M&P, esp. with the small backstrap [that comes packaged with every gun] would probably be a better choice. The M&P is designed to fit a wide variety of hands, after all. Also, let's keep in mind that trigger reach is a big factor in handgun fit. The extra distance from backstrap to trigger on the trigger-cocking Sig could mean a big difference to someone with small hands. Please understand that none of these comments are to put down the Sig. I am _very_ impressed with mine...it's obviously a top-quality handgun. I'm just not convinced it's for everybody.

Of course, the really final answer is that the OP should try handling a bunch of different guns and see what feels best to him.

226 with E2 grip (double stack) is still larger and thicker than my Sig 220 (single stack 45) with regular polymer grips! So I would say the 229 (I believe has the same grip size as 226) may not work for the guy unless he at least has medium sized hands. I have large hands and I do like the base and E2 grips for the 226. I've never seen the OP's hands, he has to try a bunch and see how he can reach on them. If he can handle the 226 or 229 with E2 grips I would highly recommend them over anything else mentioned.

220 is wider, but much thinner, can reach farther on it...

220/226 E2/239, 239 is very small, but I find it comfortable shooting even with my large hands

If you want a small grip, buy a Tokarev. People must have been smaller 60 years ago...

i have an m&p9 as well with the small palm swell and the p229 with the e2. the p229 with e2 fits my hand better and i have small hands...ymmv. up to the OP to decide himself, we can only help narrow down his decision with our recommendations.

i'd like to mention my p229 has the short trigger which helps with reach with us guys with smaller hands.

the trigger below is shorter than the trigger posted on the p229 above ;)

exactly how does E2 grips make it not a "real" Sig ?
