.40 SW Question

Hey Guys,

I am looking to jump into the sport and am thinking about buying a Smith & Wesson M&P 40 handgun, however don't fully grasp how the ammo works yet. There are so many manufacturers/grains/types, I am getting confused. I am going to be using the gun strictly at the range for target shooting and want to know what type of ammo you guys would use...I would appreciate any suggestions and possibly the cheapest place to buy them.

i have para 64-40 limited in 40S&W but switched to CZ and Glock in 9mm. Cheaper ammo and more choice.
Unless you are really set on 40 get 9mm. only my opinion. :)

i get my ammo from Fishing World in hamilton. they have god deals on ammo but LeBaron in missisauga had some great deals as well. Check also Sail in burlington and al flaherty in TO. all good choices for ammo. I usually wait for sales and than get a lot. :)

I agree about the price, but I'd go with brass cased ammo. I prefer 180 grain vs 165 though. You will eventually reload and if you don't you'll be able to sell it to someone who does or for scrap. I shoot 40 in IPSC but as svergas said 9mm ammo is cheaper and more readily available.
 
If I'm at the range and don't feel like picking up my brass, I shoot Blazer with aluminum cases because it's cheaper. Otherwise, AE 180gr is what I usually buy for. .40 S&W.
 
my m&p .40 rarely comes out to play anymore. I usually take a 9mm or two. I would never buy a .40 again, it cost more to shoot. And I find it too snappy, causing poor accuracy on my part.
