400 legend

I just read about the .400 Legend for the first time this morning.

I shoot an 18" T/C Contender carbine barrel in 10mm I also load - shoot three 6.8SPC rifles.

I have for several years now (just never gotten around to it) been thinking about getting the 18" Contender barrel rechambered to 10mm Magnum I would use the same reloading die set now this .400 Legend makes an appearance.

Which made me start thinking that I could rechamber my 18" 10mm barrel to it and still shoot 40S&W - 10mm - 10mm mag = I would not worry about the head spacing the extractor on a T/C barrel is large enough to hold the rimless case.

I did read there is a slight case change but have not looked to see if that would be a worry or not.

One question and its just that I have never done this I am assuming that I can = can a bottle necked case be expended to being a straight case again I have hundreds of new 6.8SPC brass?

Anyway I'm going to keep my eye on this cartridge especially the new bullets that are going to come out for it.

This is my T/C Contender in 10mm

I wonder how the cartridge length compares to the old 10mm Magnum (not Auto) cartridge. It would give about those ballistics from a longer barrel at that pressure.

10mm magnum would save me from having to buy reloading dies but then I may not need to buy dies for the 400 Legend if the 10mm dies work.

Here is some data for some of my 10mm loads I'm imagining what a 400 Legend case length would get my 135gr Nosler JHPs going at...

I was getting just over 2200fps with the 135 from 18.5" barrels using the "max" of 14.5grns. I do not trust that load any longer though, at least not through most 10mm semis regardless of any useless aftermarket mods. Too many random, wildly bulged cases and the fact it was purposely pulled doesn't bode well either. I would imagine they may make a decent varmint bullet from the .400.

Here is some 10mm magnum data need to find some .400 Legend data now to compare...

I have used 350 Legend for 3 years now. Whitetails and Black Bears. Absolutely love it. 3 big 200+ bucks dropped on the spot.
104yds, 149 yds, 167yds. (Trees stand lasered so I knew the exact yardages to points beyond).
I use 180gr Super X and have dropped 2 thus far. 180lb and 240lb boars.
Both dropped within 50 yds. The recoil is wonderful. Hits like a goddamed truck man.
I have no idea of the ballistics but the bullets pulled out of 2 of bucks were double sized and perfect expansion. Others went right through.
I have no large class 1 animals here so I can't speak for Elk or Moose but I'll tell under 150yds I'd have no problem using 350 Legend for them.
When moose hunting in our family way back regardless of calibre it was always one in engine room and one in the shoulder.
Hits like a 35 Remmie. Just a fabulous hunting calibre.
