400 Yard Elk cartridge . what's your Pick

I've heard a story of guys shooting a deer in the horn and knocking it out cold, thinking they made a good shot they get up to deer and it gets up and runs away? No idea if its true or not?

I shot a real nice mule deer buck in velvet in the antler with an arrow... It ran away with arrow stuck in its antler... I still hear about that one to this day, LOL

Didn't the Hanson buck take his rifle from him,?

Didn’t Chuck shoot an elk at 550 yards with a 270? I think it was just a baby though…

In Chuck's day, 30/06 based calibers were more than adequate for all big game. Over time, the potency of these cartridges has deteriorated and game has gotten tougher to kill.

Grizz

All the vulnerable ones were getting shot out and the proportional amount of 30-06 case family resistant genes were rising sharply within the gene pool, indeed.

I believe non-magnum resistant genes are recessive, but by now they must all be homozygotic....(No that doesnt mean use a 6.5 Creedmoor)

LMAO, Sure....

That does explain it. - dan

Only if you are a moron and zero at 100 yards... zeroed at MPBR with a 150 grain at 2900 fps, the zero is at 300 yards, the drop at 400 is 10"... it doesn't drop 30" until 510 yards out.

Morons do MPBR... Antiquated morons that can't grasp the superior idea of simply turning a turret, to exactly match the point of impact to the desired range.

Some of us have figured out how to get stuff done, even in a hurry. I generally expect to shoot 2-300 yards, well within my mpbr. I’m more worried about the myriad of ways to fail. I don’t want to use precious seconds to check what number my dial is set on so would probably set and forget it at about 300 or mpbr. Unless you’re shooting a blunderbuss I don’t get the point of dialing up from 100 yards on a big game rifle.

It was mentioned that there are plenty of ways to get stuff done, hurry or not?
The comment was more about the stupidity of the statement, than anything else.
A good pair of walking sticks can really help with fall avoidance.
If you can't remember where your turret is set, then that could definitely be a problem?
Dialing up from 100... really depends on how far you're shooting? The beauty of it is, you can set it to wherever you want, and change it depending on conditions and terrain. Probably not for the guy with short term memory loss, or number reading comprehension issues tho?
MPBR is just an outdated term for a longer range zero. It must make people feel smarter to throw it about like it's something special, when it's really just another bad Chuck Hawkes article....

Lmfao at "Some of us figured out how to get stuff done, even in a hurry.' I'm gonna steal that for sure haha

Love it, my money is on you starvin. By the time Rman has even thought about what just happened and shrugged it off as another lost opportunity starvin is notching another tag. Rman, real killer stuff starts early, like single digits old early with pellet guns and .22's on small game early. Closing the deal isn't an issue, it's called rise to the occasion auto-pilot type stuff. Lots of guys like to fack around and find out but the real ones don't, carry on with your range methods and ignore a 2400-3200 fps advantage window matching to kill zone size of targets inside the animals window of perception and skeedattle...where 98% of all game is taken btw. Do you only hunt muley's or gophers or something that has the sight distance chill method of defence? Or do you actually hunt flighty animals that leave first and ask questions later? Weird because I'm from the same hood as you and not a chance I'd handicap myself 100-150 yards with a tag in my pocket but I also don't often give the pass on coyotes so it's gotta be ready for calling predators to whitetails and everything else. When it's beyond the 2400-3200 fps advantage is when you have time to break out whatever elevation correction solution you like. These sure are trying times when it comes to general logic and common sense. And to come in hot and call people morons...talk about a gaslight of gaslights. This seems to be a reoccurring theme with you though...pot, kettle...sup.

starvin marvin be fillin them tags, Rman be trollin'n'gaslightin ;)

oh, and always hold fur on the first one lol...starvin knows

can't kill anything if you don't shoot at it, he knows that too ;)

grab your popcorn folks Rman has arrived
