Shot AE223J 55grain at 405 yards today. It shot great for cheap bulk ammo.

Shot a few groups at 100 to confirm zero then moved to the 400 yard line. Lased at 405 yards from the tailgate to the target (far treeline). That is a dead end logging road (ends at far treeline).

My first 400 yard group was pushed right by a 9 o'clock wind coming up through the clearing past the first treeline.

Once I had the right kentucky windage on the Acog rounds were hitting center target.

It was late in the day and the sun went down just as I was shooting the test group. The plan was to fire 20 rounds but while on the 3rd mag I could hardly make out the target and decided that was it. I got 12 rounds off.
I was pleasantly surprised when I got down to the target, all there.

I pulled the target off the tree, packed up and drove home.
11 rounds are within 12" (size of circle on a Fig 12 target). The one round on the bottom opens the group up to 13.75"

Not bad at all. I'm really glad I have 2000 rounds of this stuff:D
If I find a good spot where I can shoot further I will try it at 500 yards next time.

Nice, good shooting, thats about what I get out of Bulk American Eagle too, it really is accurate for how cheap it is.

I just got 1000 rounds of Sellior and Bellot M193, here's hoping it shoots that good!!!

And believe it or not the MFS FMJ, I have found to be not quite as good but consistently competitive with the AE, now the Hollow Point mfs was a different story, it was no where near as accurate. It sucked frankly

I have the green SA cheek rest (came with rifle).
Kyle precision rail, Acog TA11F and TA51 mount. Rifle is 1:10 twist.
I'll post a pic later tonight.

rgr, I've stuck with the irons for almost 2 yrs and i'm thinking it might be time to "optic up" my rifle and was wondering what some guys are running/how well it is working for them.

I am a long time iron sight shooter and this is my first tactical style optic. I got it because I want to shoot this rifle out to 600. I'm most used to shooting with irons at 300.

I wanted an Acog after trying out a TA01. I chose the TA11 for its longer eye relief and am very happy with it on the Swiss Arms (I am actually going to move it forward one more spot on the rail).
I got the F model chevron reticle because of similarity to the Elcan on the C7.
The sight is very clear and bright, lifetime warranty, tough as nails.

I find 300m no prob with irons, 400m is a whole different ball game... (that being said when i shot 400m it was a very non distinct target (very hard to pick out from berm) which didn't help but still it seems like the "critical" range for irons/optic crossover in effectiveness.

Do you find that the sight+cheek rest take away some of the.... smoothness and feel of the rifle? or doesit add?
i also prefer the chevron reticle.

Although i must say i was leaning to a TA31f or TA01 (if i can get that one with chevron) Any reason other than eye relief that you went for the TA11?

I am not crazy about the cheekpiece but it is functional and gives me a comfy repeatable position to line up on. It makes the rifle feel a little bulky but once you start shooting you forget all about it.

I liked everything about the 4X Acog except the eye relief and after alot of searching this article convinced me to take the plunge and buy the TA11:

It is as he says, very easy to use from sitting, kneeling, standing. I am very happy with the 11.
This is not a lightweight setup but I've carried alot worse pigs.

I just acquired a larue QD mount so I can keep shooting irons and when I want to shoot farther out, mount the Acog. I can shoot this setup just fine without the cheek piece, but get a sore spot on my jaw after alot of shooting that way.
 
man j996, that article has me seriously considering a TA33, Other than being only 3x (which should be no problem) it seems ideal. Plus for a guy who really dislikes the look of acogs (the ta01 and ta31 come to mind) it isnt over the top ridiculous looking.
 
Yes I gave the 33 a long hard look but ultimately wanted max eye relief AND light gathering so went with the 35mm Acog.
If I could get one I would have chosen the new 6X48mm monster pig :D But it wont clear the diopter and would turn the rifle into a crew served unit.
 
so maybe the eye-relief (something i have never considered, Thank god for forums BTW)
is what makes the c79 so ####y to use on pwt3? I find myself shifting my helm and my head around for 2-3 seconds in order to get perfect sight picture...

Learn something new every day I wonder what the TA33's intended role was?
 
I second that, might as well glue your eye to the C79 lol. To get the best sight picture my helmet is always resting on top of the sight while prone.

I have never seen a TA33 myself. Hopefully some of the guys here have some experience with them and can help you out.

me too, and then everyshot it bounces off and falls in the way.... so ridiculous hahha.
 
My 1:9 twist 20" Hbar loves federal AE in 55gr also. Shoots even tighter than 3" as well! I've got a TA31F for my optic, and I always felt it was a really great optic, especially during the day, but I took it out for deer this week on my Tavor and I wasn't impressed with the optic at dawn in the rain. It just wasn't as crisp as it is during the day for whatever reason, and the small field of view really showed its limitations. Not to mention, the Bindon Aiming Concept is bunk. The chevron is never pointing at the actual POI. That said, the Tritium was a real bonus in low light.
