400wm

I wouldn't take .300 WM case over .358 personally... the necks get thin... there are better ways to get your brass... but it would make a really nice .35...

5 thou bore diameter and a couple grains case capacity and you have a .416 Ruger.

I've never read about anyone necking up the 300 WM case to .411, good luck and post the results if you follow through on the idea.

BB..........any particular reason for your preference to the 411 bullet, with so many new and great 416 bullets on the market now, it would seem to be a better choice. The 416X300 WM is a great cartridge with gobs of relatively cheap brass available (same goes for the 411 though) and it will add an honest 100 fps to the Taylor or do the same at lower pressures. You could use 375 H&H brass, 416 Rem brass, 458 Lott brass or even 8mm RM brass if you happen to have a bunch. I found with the Taylor that the necks were quite thin using 338 brass and 458 worked much better for neck tension, particularly after annealing, so I wouldn't recommend using 300 WM brass necked up that far.
The 411-338 WM would, for all intents and purposes, be a 416 Taylor or 411 Taylor if you like, with identical ballistics with equal bullet weights.

Just never had a 40 cal and would like to try one. I was planning on a double in 450/400 but I just bought a house that needs more work than I originally planned. A fairly simple wildcat could get me a 40 cal for 15-20% of the price. Won't be as nice but should tie me over. Any brass I get for 458 wm is stashed away for my 458 wm. Was hoping for a simple barrel swap. I realize the 416 makes sense but no bear should be able to tell the difference

I know it's winter and we are spending too much time in our heads... but if money is tight, there are so many existing options that will get you the same performance and shooting experience for half the cost... rifles over .40 cal come often on the used market and usually at a greatly reduced price. If you do want the 450/400, consider a used Ruger No.1-H... you can probably pick one up for $1000 or less.

The .425 Express is based on a .300WM, and I believe a few Savages came off the line in that chambering. But I agree with the above comments.

The 411 would be fun, you could use 405 Win bullets from Horn for plinking and lighter game. They come in a flat point and a spritzer in 300 gn and are relatively inexpensive. Just a thought..........I believe they are designed to handle up to about 2500 fps so no slouch really, a good NA load for most anything without having to get into the Woodleighs.
Any good 300 WM and a barrel and you got your 40 cal...........not too sure where to get 411 barrels, but then I've never looked for one.

It would be different. Could even try cast bullets for plinking with trail boss. Should be great for bear over bait with 400 gr bullets and still shoot decently flat enough for Ontario hunting. So I could base loads off the 416 Taylor and be safe?
