I am not new to this site, but I need some help. I am an indecisive, neurotic individual with too much time and not enough ambition to go out and try something on my own with out a couple dozen internet pros giving me a thumbs up on a completely obvious decision.
So here I am wondering if my 404 Jeffery double with 400gr Kynoch shells is enough for the large northern gray squirrel. I am really unsure about stopping power on such a agile and dangerous game animal. Has anyone tried this and felt comfortable with such a task? I am absolutely paranoid that I may just have to take a rear presentation shot and I won't break the hip and penetrate into vitals. A angry squirrel is nearly impossible to stop once you have wounded it, and I have seen video on Youtube that shows squirrel charges and maulings. They aren't pretty and I don't want to be the victim of my own poor shooting skills, and shot choices, so in reality can someone just point me in the direction of the perfect rifle and cartridge/bullet combo to take care of the ornery gray squirrel?
And I know that the worlds largest squirrel was shot with a .22lr by a indian lady picking berries or something, but I am not very daring and regularly hunt with my security blanket (I don't go anywhere alone without Blanky.....) present.
Can anyone tell me if I am ok with my current setup? PLS, PLS, PLS..........
