405 grain Remington jacketed for 45-70

I know we need another 45-70 bullet thread as much as a hole in the head, but, I notice the "newer" variant of these excellent Remington soft point copper jacketed bullets have a deeper front cannelure in the forward position, comparing it to the older ones.
It's been a long time since I went through an older batch handloading for my 458 American.
Was wondering why Remington changed the depth of the cannelure.
My only theory is for better & stronger crimping while travelling a levergun magazine tube.

Any thoughts guys?

I would agree with you about the crimping for leverguns, although i haven't seen any of these new 405gr's yet. Where did you find them, I'm almost out of the older ones.

I got them from Gunnar at Armco. But the only CGN vendor I know of that presently has them in stock is Budget Shooter Supply.
At $45 per hundred plus tax & shipping. I got this price from Henry today.

The last time I bought any they were $185/1000 from Natchez in the U.S. and I shoot mostly cast so I have lots left - but I may have to grab some just to compare...
