i'm curious if anyone has flattened anything with this caliber? i have one but have yet to take it out. an old timer told me he shot a mountain lion with one and it really hammered it down, DRT. i've been reading kenneth anderson stories lately, he hunted dangerous game in india with a .405

1885 and 95. very stout recoil and sounds like an artillery piece has gone off. the 85 is the only one i have fired, and it had a good recoil pad on it and it was still very stiff in the recoil dept. kinda thinking i may get a 358 winchester for all around use, should be a powder puff in comparison. my old .350 mag (which i never should have sold) was tame in comparison. also considering a cz 9.3x62

its the davidson's special limited , 24" bbl (would have preferred longer) and pad. i was torn between that and the number 1 9.3x74r. hands down made the right choice. points like a charm and really well made! i'd take it out before the 95 to be honest in most circumstances. if you come across one, my advice: buy it immediately!

i think i picked it up a couple of years ago on clearance, i can only imagine what it is worth now

I have a couple 95s that I have shot a lot (several hundred rounds) but have yet to draw blood with one........Can't imagine that it wouldn't be VERY effective on any NA game out to a couple hundred mtrs..........I personally feel that it is a superior cartridge to the 45-70 but bullets can be difficult to obtain. Luckily I bought about 500 of the 300 gn Horn when they were readily available.

Teddy was a fan...

And if it's good enough for Teddy it's good enough for me. Mind You I move 310 gr cast WFN at 21 and change and baby do you know that butt plate is steel.
