.408 Chey-Tac

The recoil is not as bad as you think. The 408 I shot has about as much felt recoil as a 338 Lapua. Keeping the weight up in combination with a well designed brake and it's quite the pleasure to shoot. Can't see why a person couldn't fire off 50 or more at one session without getting beat up.

I have Stiller Tac 408 actions on order for 3 months now so should be seeing them within 2-3 months single shot and repeaters , also have 408 barrels(Benchmark) with 1.375" shanks std/straight flute /and spiral flutes in various length on order about 2-4 month delivery.
I have a list of very competent gunsmiths all across Canada , happy to discuss.
Hate to steal a thread to promote product but it doesn't seem to bother others , so might as well join in :)

Hi Gary,

I was the Stiller dealer in Canada for a number of years. The 408 actions are very nice. It seems stepping up to this size of action is a very nice way to go. Happy to screw some barrels on these and the Barnards as well.

Sounds like someone is going to be having some fun in the near future. Hope they don't live in Nova Scotia. Their options will be very limited finding somewhere to take advantage of the long range accuracy potential of the .408CT.

Corlanes is stocking the 338 Snipetac Bertram brass (improved 338 cheytac) and TSE (boo) has the .408 Jameison brass available for a decent price. The Jamieson is soft and not really holding up from what summitsteve has seen though. In his 338 Snipetac only 4 firings and loose primer pockets.

If you guys need more info, PM summitsteve. He has both a 338 Snipetac and a 408 Cheytac built by Jason Anderson at Anderson Arms. Jason also runs a 408 Cheytac of his own. Currently doing up my new .338 Improved.

Steves .408 is on a Barnard from Peter and the .338 Snipetac is on a large diameter Stiller.

You can easily neck down the 408 brass to 375. So I guess the only issue is getting 375 dies. I would think thats not a problem.
