Hi Just bought a Glock 35 in 40 S&W and found a warning in my Lee reloading book saying not to use reloads in 40S&W in the Glock because the brass is not supported. Anyone have any experience with this problem? Dan
Not a problem use handloads in my Gen 2 been doing It for awhile, if factory loads don’t cause a problem reloads of the same pressures shouldn’t cause a problem
My Gen 3 glock 22 saw about 3k of reloads, I never pushed the envelope though. Looked new other than a bit of shine on the barrel in the one spot from rubbing.
The glocks use polygonal rifling. Lots of folks still shoot lead bullets out of 'em. I do as well once in a while. You just need to be diligent about cleaning them after use. If your lead is hard enough, there's very minor (if any) lead buildup.
Glock specifically designed their very hard hammer forged barrels to fire FMJ's. Glock's polygonal rifling works best with FMJ bullets, however, if you are careful you can fire all sorts of reloads in Glock barrels.
Of course your warranty will be toast if you fire lead or non factory but it's possible...
To clarify my original post. With my Glock 35 Gen 4, I used nothing but reloaded ammunition. Either Campro or Berry's, 180 gn, FMJ or TMJ projectiles. 4.7gn of Titegroup, O.A.L. of 1.135. Never had a single issue with either gun or ammo.
Polygonal rifling favours fat lead bullets. I size mine .358 for my 9MM PPQ and it shoots great. My normal sizing for my other nines with ballard rifling is .357. Polygonal rifling is shallow and by loading fat bullets a better seal is made which reduces and can eliminate gas cutting which is the major source of leading. I have yet to have any leading in my nines. Same for my Tanfoglio .40cal with polygonal rifling.
Most manuals will state the warranty is void if you use reloads. I have never heard of a case where a factory refused warranty due to reloads being used. It may have happened; I just have never heard of an instance.
My G35 Gen4 has been fed nothing but reloads since I purchased it last year. Well over a thousand rounds. Always Berry's 165 or 180gr RNFP loaded to 1.120".
The only issue I've ever had is putting together too light a load on my first batch of 20 that wouldn't cycle the action. Since then, no issues whatsoever, and all of the brass has been kept and reloaded several times over.
