Hey guys,

Now that the World Shoot is behind me, it's time to move to a new division: standard:evil:. I am totally excited about this and really looking forward to start shooting matches in standard:dancingbanana:. But first, I need to find a load for my gun which is an SVI sight-tracker, standard frame, steel grip and 5 inches barrel in .40SW. I have been reading a lot but couldn't quite find the information I was looking for. So I guess my question is what load are you guys running for your 40SW standard gun? I plan on using Cam-Pro 180gr loaded at 1.220'' with mixed brass. I won't be shooting VV powder as it is way to expensive for the amount of rounds I usually shoot in a year so if that's what you are using, do you have a back-up load that is more affordable and performs close from it? So far, I was going to try some loads with:

- Titegroup arround 4.8-5 gr;
- Clays arround 4.6gr;
- WST not sure how many grs.

Any recommendations? And yes, I know that Clays can be dangerous because of the pressure G: but I know that loading at 1.220", it won't be a problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
JP

I use 180gr Cam-Pro with 4.8 International Clays, OAL is 1.16", light crimp 0.420-421
It makes 175-176PF.

Good Luck

I find that a OAL of 1.2 seems to function best in my STI and my SVI. Loading them to this longer length also helps lower the pressure as you said. I use VV so my load info won't help. I have found the having a load PF over 175 tends to feel snappy regardless of the powder used. I would suggest working out a load that gets as close to the 175 as possible.

running 5.1 of titegroup with a 180 MG @1.2" in my STI's but have been told the AET barrels will require me to bump my load up a bit, have to wait and see when they show up.

Welcome to the Major League.

Mike and I have been loading the same load for years...

5.1 to 5.2 of Titegroup under a 180 Montana Gold @ 1.195 to 1.200... Winchester Small Rifle Primer.

I have an AET barrel in my Para. This load is major with Frontier plated 180's and cast lead 175's

4.7gr Titegroup
1.155 OAL

I use CLAYS, 4.5 gn with 1.2 OAL, 185 gn AIM bullets. Major PF (about 173) in Tanfoglio LC.
Like CLAYS better than TiteGroup, shot about 13,000 rounds without any problems.

I thought I did.

Apparently not :)

I didn't find that, I think I only lost about 5 fps with the same load. I did find that AET barrels don't get along well with plated bullets though. I found that often the plating got shaved off with the AET barrels.

Thanks everyone for your help! Now I know a little bit more where I am going. I decided to start by trying the two following loads:

- 4.7grs of Clays over Cam-Pro 180gr at 1.220" OAL;
- 4.9grs of Titegroup over the same bullet at the same OAL

We'll see how that goes and then I'll make a decision. I have a feeling that both these loads are not gonna be quite strong enough for the 170 PF so I might have to bump them up a bit. I'll start there and then increase the charge until I reach the PF or before the gun explodes!

Thanks again :cheers:
