Anybody knows if one can reload for a Forehand and Wadsworth antique 41 caliber handgun or is it a black powder gun.

Well, its a black powder gun, in that the cartridge was originally loaded with black powder. It uses the same cartridge as the Remington double derringer. Fresh .41rf ammunition is US$55/50 at Dixie Gun works (which does no one here any good). One way of preparing ammunition for it is to use machined brass cases which are bored off-centre for .22rf cases. The .22 acts as the primer. It has been reported that .41 Colt cases can be shortened, and bored for the .22 case. Put it this way: it is possible to get ammunition for one of these, but there is more effort required than with most other old ones.

Likely BP and rimfire. Forehand and Wadsworth was renamed in 1890 to Forehand Arms Company and later sold to Hopkins And Allen in 1902. The only mention of a .41 calibre, in the quick bit of looking I did, is a single shot derringer.

.41 Rf

I reload for rifles but I have no idea what RF means and how in the world I would use .22 bore off-center cases as primers ???
I am lost. The seller of this gun says I could use colt 25x41 long cases but I can't find any place selling these cases either. I would like to buy the gun but would like to know beforehand if I can reload for it.

LOL NO I said i had a total of 25 colt 41 cf cases i would throw in or thats what i ment to say.
They fit the cylinder perfect and dont stick out the front.
Peckerwood came up with a smart idea  I know i was surprised to :D
Just load the whole 41 cf case un trimed use 41 caliber wad cutters seat them deep in the case so only a little bit sticks out of the case front like 1/8 and load with black or pyrodex.
The 22 off set is used as the primer like in a regular 22 rim fire.
Honestly if your not able to get 41 rf from the U.S and arnt familar with this process you might want to pass on the gun Dannyboy.

If you can get the 41rf from the U.S or the Dixie cases already made to reload off set 22s in then you would be much better off. ;)

41 rf reloading

Dingus,
I've succeeded in reloading antique rifle calibers and I can't see how I couldn't learn how to reload rimfire guns. I am stuborn and I swear I'll learn how. If you happen to sell the gun, go for it. I am interested in it and if I think I can gather enough info to get started in reloading it before you sell it, I'll buy it for sure.

Well if you reloaded Antique ammo then you should have no worries.
Its just a little more dicking around, being stubourn is a very good trait for reloading RF ammo :D
