Just picked up an old Colt 1892, and it's in .41.
I've read that it's a pain in the ass to reload because it's a heeled projectile.
Looking for pre-rolled. Where do you get your .41lC?

You can get two types of bullets for 41LC - heeled bullets or non-heeled hollow base bullets. The HB bullets are easier to reload. I use soft lead HB bullets and have had reasonable success with them.

I had a bullet mold made in the states for my revolver. Its a hollow base Heeled bullet. It wasn't cheap but shoots pretty well. I found that black powder shoots better but smokeless is the way to go if you are feeling lazy.

Did a search on some of the big US sites just to see what's available. Only found Ultramax and Ten-X that make it in factory loads. Never heard of those brands before and I'd be willing to bet they aren't approved by NRCan as it's likely no one has gone through the approval process to import them before. No NRCan approval means it'll be quite difficult to get them into Canada (and not technically legal to do so based on some sources). They're also US$1.50-$2.00 per round.

I'd start looking into dies, brass, and a custom mold for casting if I were you. Looks like Accurate Molds in Utah has a heeled design in their catalogue for the .41 colt.

I make both heeled and HB bullets for the 41LC. I sell a few occasionally. :)

The HB bullets have a reputation for shooting better than the heeled bullets. Lots of opinions on that and many "experts" that got all their info from a blog somewhere. Just use soft lead bullets and there isn't such a big difference, and remember the 41LC is never going to win a lot of target matches regardless which bullet you use.

Old West Bullet Molds makes a decent HB bullet mold for casting your own 200 gr HB bullets. BTW, casting HB bullets in a single cavity mold using a HB pin is a real PIA and one of the reasons why 41LC HB bullets are so expensive - because nobody wants to screw with them.

The heeled bullets are easier and faster to cast but all heeled bullets are difficult to crimp for reasons that should be apparent if you think about it. :) Old West Bullet Molds used to sell crimping tools for 41LC heeled bullets and this is a good way to go.

Thanks for the info guys. I did see load X, but only on American websites, sadly nothing in Canada. Rusty Wood seems to sell them, and .45 ACP Webley loads...
