Doubt you'll find any loaded ammo that isn't collector stuff. Shooter's Choice, in Waterloo, wants $39.95 per 20 for Bertram brass and it'll be a special order thing. Uses a .386" cast bullet that you'll likely have to buy molds for. You'd need a set of dies too. Redding makes 'em. $73.19US for a set from Buffalo Arms. Uses a Lee #1 shell holder. Same as a .38 Special.
Buffalo Arms, Stateside, sells loaded BP and smokeless ammo, but it isn't cheap and they can't export. $75US per 50 for BP ammo. $78US per 50 for smokeless(not for antiques).

He uses fire formed 38 special brass.

The 41 LC was a heeled bullet, and also externally lubed. The heeled bullet is the same as bore diameter (.405-.410, .408 average) with a heel that is around the .386 standard.

A .386 overall bullet will drop freely through the bore usually - However, with a hollow base bullet that's fine - it'll bump up nicely with a good charge behind it. I had a hollow base mold with an extra deep hollow base that seemed better than the standard.

Just a note on sunray's post - the 38 special shell holder may work. I don't remember if I had a Lee holder, but I know there is at least one brand that will NOT accept both 38 special and 41 colt.

"...38 special shell holder may work..." Same number on the assorted lists.
One site I looked at suggested that the bullet was changed from a heeled, outside lubed, bullet to one that is not.

If you want to shoot 41 long colt, you will probably have to make your own. Even that is not as straight forward as other cartridges.

There is only one manufacturer who makes a 41 long colt die. Redding which is expensive. NEF makes a rapine mold hollowbase mold, hoch makes the heel based one.Brass is made by starline, good luck finding some. Fireformed 38 special cases are atleast accessible, but a bit labour intensive.Once you are set up it is no more or less difficult to make then any other cartridge. The deal is once you are set up. It will cost you a few hundred dollars and a few months to get set up, or at least it did for me.

Starline brass can be bought from mysticplayer on this site, it's easy to order and about $0.70 a case.

Lee's #1 shellplate DOES NOT fit .41 Colt without dremeling the upper edge to create clearance.

JBD, do you mean NEI Moulds? I bought one and had terrible service (seems everyone does), the hollow pins also needed reworking before I could use it. I don't recommend them. Bernie at Old West Bullet Moulds makes two heeled and two hollow base moulds for 41 and his moulds are excellent quality.

IMO it's quite easy to get setup for making your own .41 Colt just more expensive than the average caliber.

There are a few places in the US that makes small runs of it but it's expensive and you would have to import it.

Best thing to do is order up some Starline brass (various dealers in Canada and US) and buy the bullets from Ben Hunchak! His stuff is First-rate and you wont find a better fella to deal with.

I'd gladly pay a 10% premium for your stuff Ben. We could use more people that provide the quality, service and price you provide.

Just another satisfied customer.
